Is tea tree oil toxic for my pregnant dog? What should I do?

You are right that tea tree oil is toxic to dogs. You need to bathe Lucy immediately. Wash her thoroughly with dog shampoo or baby shampoo, wash it out, and bathe her again. As long as you get it all off of her before it has a chance to soaking into her skin, she should be fine. I hope this helps!

Tea tree oil is toxic to dogs and should never be used on them unless significantly diluted. Tremors are a sign of poisoning, and even though Lil bit seems ok now, I would still have her seen by a vet right away for a health check.

HI, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Honey! Tea tree oil is toxic at high concentrations. If you washed it off and she hasn't licked it and is acting fine she will be ok. Watch her for lethargy or neurologic signs. if she isn't showing symptoms there is nothing to do preventatively. I would try a triple antibiotic on the wound and an antihistamine. Giving them a bath is the best thing to strip their coats and skin if the oil. Make sure you used dawn dish soap as this cuts grease and oil based products very well. Since little got absorbed due to the timely baths, they are unlikely to show any ill effects. Monitor for any vomiting or shaking.

If there was to be a problem, it would typically show up within 2-12 hours after exposure. If you see depression, weakness, incoordination, muscle tremors, salivation, vomiting, a skin rash, or collapse, get him into a vet immediately. I'd monitor him for the time period I mentioned above, but after that time period passes and if there are no signs, he should be ok. I hope this helps!

As most face washes are rinsed after use I can't imagine much or if any tea tree oil remains on your face. I wouldn't let him lick your face immediately after using the wash to be safe. Maybe give it an hour. I wouldn't let him lick the concentrated tea tree oil for the pimples. And I would wash it off in the morning to be safe. I am sure if you accidentally forget and he licks your face he will be fine! I hope this helps and have a great weekend!

Poor guy. Tea tree oil is a pretty nasty irritant to the stomach when ingested. You can try giving him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days, along with 1-2 tsp's of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling). I would also give him some non-flavored Pedialyte diluted with water to help prevent dehydration. If he is still having a hard time after another 24 hrs, then it is best to take him to your vet for stronger medication to help stop the nausea and treat his diarrhea with antibiotics.
