Stray dog throwing up and very weak. Is it parvo? What to do?

I am sorry Omaze isn’t feeling well. Your description that isnhe weak has me concerned that he may be anemic. If he hasn’t been dewormed yet I would highly recommend a broad spectrum deworming. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can check for this or check if he has anything else going on. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Joplin is very very sick. She might have a condition called "Parvovirus" which is a very serious virus that affects puppies, and is more likely if Joplin is unvaccinated. The other possible causes in a puppy include an obstruction in her gut (a blockage from a foreign object (ex. ball) that she ate, or an intussusception (the intestines telescoping in on each other). Also, depending on her age, pyometra is possible along with many other conditions. With what you are describing, I am very concerned that she could die without aggressive care. I strongly recommend you get Joplin to a vet right away, and if your vet is closed go to your closest emergency clinic. They will recommend a test of her poop, as well as possible bloodwork and x-rays, and will likely want to keep her in hospital on IV fluids and medications. Poor Charlie! It's great that she doesn't have parvo, but if she can't keep food down and keeps throwing up, she could have a severe GI illness, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take her back into the vet now. She will need a shot to stop the vomiting, and IV fluids for hydration. If the vet hasn't done x-rays to check for a foreign body, I think it would be a good idea for those to be done.

Based on what you are describing I would be concerned that Ellie has either a heavy intestinal parasite burden or parvovirus. Both can cause weight loss, dehydration, vomiting and diarrhea. I would recommend taking Ellie to be examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. She will likely need treatment (for either disease) to be started right away since she is losing weight already. Your vetnwill probably recommend checking a fecal sample and running a parvo test. At the very least she will need to be dewormed and, if healthy enough, start her vaccines. I hope this helps. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. If Wisky is unvaccinated, the clinical signs you are reporting are consistent with Parvo, though they are also consistent with many other possibilities. Parvo typically manifests in younger dogs (under six months), but we do see it more rarely in dogs greater than one year, particularly those who were never previously vaccinated during their puppyhood. While he is continuing to eat and drink, I have to wonder how much nutrition he is able to keep down if he is continuing to vomit and have diarrhea. If you are unable to get to a vet, you can certainly try fasting for 12 - 24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken / hamburger and rice for 3-5 days. You can also utilize certain over the count anti-diarrheal and antacids, though finding a dose that is small enough for Wisky may prove difficult. All and all, if these clinical signs continue or worsen, I would strongly advise finding a way to get him into the veterinarian. Small dogs dehydrate quickly if they are vomiting and can also become hypoglycemic. The consequences of those two conditions together can have a disastrous outcome. There are options for at-need clients including services that provide credit or funding. Care credit, scratch pay, and private good samaritan funding would be the best places to start.
