How to stop my Siberian Husky from biting aggressively during play?

Otis is adorable! I would actually recommend a trainer for him. They will be able to work with you and him to stop this behavior. in the mean time when he starts to nip then I would recommend stopping all play until he has calmed down. I would highly recommend getting a trainer to come to your home as soon as possible. They can see exactly what Gin is doing, what is setting him off and work with you and him on how to fix it. I would encourage you to contact a dog trainer that can work with you and her in person to really take care of this behavior. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Nova is adorable! Play biting is very normal in puppy-hood, though at 6 months this should be significantly improved or resolved. Never use your hands to play with her or rile her up. Only offer toys. The minute she gets crazy and starts lunging for your hands, etc you need to make her sit or lay down. Always have treats on you to reward her when she listens. If she is too worked up and not listening, put her in a 5 minute time out. Try to have a leash on her at all times, I really like the muzzle gentle leader harnesses as it allows great head control. That way you can easily pull her off you. She should know how to look and leave it on command. If you are reaching a plateau with training I recommend hiring a trainer to focus on your areas of concern. Professionals can really help when we have exhausted what we can do alone. Exercise is also important: frequent walks and play time or consider doggie daycare a few times per week. Puppies can have aggressive play behavior which can be corrected. These are the techniques I find the most helpful. If these do not help, then I would recommend seeking a behaviorist to discuss training Indie. I hope this helps! When Indie bites your hand, insert your thumb into her mouth and grip under the jaw with the remaining fingers and pinch your thumb lightly against the fingers under the jaw in the soft spot of the underside of the tongue. Hold this so that she cannot get away and do this until she finds it annoying and stops biting. She will likely start licking you. Keep up with this technique and it should help. 2. Use a spray bottle filled with water and lightly spray Indie in the face while saying "off!" when she does this behavior 3. Keep a leash on her at all times and when she acts up, grab the leash and give a firm tug downward and say "off!". 4. It is important that you also reward the good behavior and give her a treat for when she stops the behavior. I hope this helps! Having had Siberians for over 40 years, I can attest to the fact that they can be pretty determined when it comes to doing what they want. That is not to say, however, that they are untrainable. I would suggest that you stop two of your interventions right away. All dogs live in the present. They can't guess the future, nor can they remember the past. So a time out is absolutely worthless as a training tool. Further, offering a toy when a dog is misbehaving is actually offering a reward! Also, you need to be very judicious with hand-feeding, or she may dome to expect to be fed that way, and you'll have to break her of the habit.
