How to stop my 3-month-old puppy from pooping in his crate at night?

Most dogs do not want to poop where they are sleeping, so this normally only happens if he physically can't hold it. If this occurred while you were not home, then I would suggest using a larger crate or keeping Ziggy in a room with a hard floor, so that if he can't hold it he has an area to poop in, and a separate area to lay in. If it happened at night, I would recommend placing his crate in your bedroom next to the bed, so that you can hear him if he whines and needs to go out - most pups will whine, cry, and act restless before they have an accident in the crate, which gives you an opportunity to wake up and take him outside.

I recommend first to have Kiki examined by the veterinarian to have her stool checked for bacterial over growth or parasites. If she is experiencing inflammation in her gut, this could speed up the GI transit time meaning she will need to go to the bathroom. If no medical cause can be found, I recommend to feed the brand Royal Canin because it tends to be a low residue diet (as long as it is not the 'diet' formula) and pets who eat this diet tend to produce less stool. I would also switch her to twice a daily feeding (6pm latest) and make sure she has an evening bowel movement before bed. This will help to not make her have a BM in the middle of the night. I would recommend decreasing the number of feeding for max through the day. If max is a Labrador he should be big enough to only eat twice a day. If you start feeding him twice a day it will help limit the amount of times he defecates. I would recommend the latest you feed him be 6:00pm. You can try warming his puppy food slightly or mixing in some warm water. This could stimulate his appetite. Depending on his age, he may still need to go out in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. The rule of thumb regarding maximum crate time before a potty break is 1 hour for each month of age plus 1 hour. So, if he is 3 months old, that would be a maximum of 4 hours crated before having a break.

Hi there. Potty training is very difficult. The key is crate training so he doesn't have full run of the house and so he learns to hold it. It has to be small enough to only allow him to stand, turn, and lay down. If it's too big, the go potty in it, then move away from it.

It sounds like Eli isn't fully potty trained yet. I recommend using the basics. 1) have a set daily schedule. As soon as you wake up take her out, as soon as she's done eating, as soon as she's done playing, and before she goes to bed. 2) meal feeding- this helps determine when she needs to potty. What goes in will push the stool out usually within 15-30 minutes. 3) Use a lot of praise when Eli goes potty outside. Lastly, I recommend making the space within her crate smaller, either by buying a smaller crate or blocking off the back end so she only has enough space to stand up and turn around. This is a very common problem with puppies :) It sounds like the pen he is in is probably too large - it gives him too much space to work with, and makes it easy for him to wake up and find a spot to pee, rather than either holding it or whining to let you know he needs to go out. Instead of the pen, I would recommend having him sleep in a crate in your bedroom at night. Most puppies instinctively do not want to pee where they are sleeping, so in most cases this means that the pup will whine to wake you up if he needs to go out during the night. As he gets older and his bladder control improves, he should start to be able to hold it all night with no problems.
