My 4-month-old puppy bites my feet. How do I train her to stop?

I would recommend starting on some basic commands with Panda. This would include sit, come and stay. That way when Panda starts to chew on your feet you can re direct her into a basic command. I would reward her with a treat so he knows that the command is the way she should be acting, I would also recommend starting her in puppy training classes to help with her attention. You are likely describing teething which is basically a normal type of behavior when puppies are growing up and it is secondary to mouth discomfort as teeth are growing. I recommend that you get her teething type toys which you can get at your local pet store or online. Anytime that she tries to nibble at you, you say no and give her the toy. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You didn’t comment on Bailee’s age or breed. If she’s a young puppy they tend to outgrow this. Some breeds, specifically herding breeds do this out of nature. I would recommend starting basic obedience. She needs to know basic commands before trying to prevent her from biting your pants. She should know how to sit, come, stay, lay down and leave it. Once she has mastered these commands you can apply them to when she bites your pants. Use positve reinforcement. Have her sit or leave it when she starts biting your pants. Once she stops she gets a treat. Also having her on a leash during training and using a gentle leader for the muzzle allows great head control to pull her away. It will take time but practice makes perfect! It's normal for puppies to have a lot of energy and want to run and bite things constantly - this is how they play. Just like human toddlers, they're usually very active and constantly into things! She will get calmer on her own as she gets older, but for now you need to provide her with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to meet her needs. You can take her for walks, enroll in a good puppy class, and play with her using toys. I would also recommend getting her several different things to lay down and chew on, such as bully sticks, pig or cow ears, rawhide chews, or puzzle toys such as a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. This will help encourage her to lay down and relax after she's already played and had plenty of exercise.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would assume she is doing this to get his attention to play. Bella is young and needs a lot of exercise and interaction. I would add more walks or play time. Consider enrolling her in doggie daycare a few times per week. Otherwise I would have a leash on her at all times and when she starts this behavior, pull her down, make her sit and remove her from the situation. Consider 5-10 mins in "time out" in another room or crate. Then exercise her. I hope this helps!

This will resolve on its own as she gets older, but there are a few things you can do in the meantime to help. Make sure that Ebby has a variety of different toys to provide an appropriate outlet for this behavior - long floppy rope or fleece toys for tugging, plush toys for biting and carrying, and smaller toys or balls for chasing and fetching. You should also provide lots of different things for her to chew on, such as bully sticks, large rawhide chews, cow or pig ears, and puzzle toys such as a Kong stuffed with peanut butter. If you are playing with Ebby and she bites you, just redirect her to one of her toys and use that to play with her instead. If she bites your hands when you pet her, calmly stop petting and ignore her until she calms down again. This will get better as she grows up, as long as you are patient and consistent.
