My dog bites my shoes and nips my feet. How do I stop this behavior?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would assume she is doing this to get his attention to play. Bella is young and needs a lot of exercise and interaction. I would add more walks or play time. Consider enrolling her in doggie daycare a few times per week. Otherwise I would have a leash on her at all times and when she starts this behavior, pull her down, make her sit and remove her from the situation. Consider 5-10 mins in "time out" in another room or crate. Then exercise her. I hope this helps!

This type of behavior is usually either inappropriate play that was accidentally rewarded or it could be anxiety based. I would recommend working with a positive reenforcement trainer on appropriate walking behavior and general calmness. In the mean time, when she starts to get crazy on walks, stop, and just ignore her (it helps to count to 10 in your head) until she's calm, and keep going. You'll have to take short walks because this gets old fast! But it will help, especially if you can get some hands on help as well. Enjoy your pup!

Biting is very normal for puppies but it should be addressed. You are on the right tract with saying Ouch but then you need to get up and ignore her and keep walking away from her until she stop biting. At that moment you turn around and CALMLY reward her and hand her something more appropriate to play with. This will take time and consistency. I would recommend starting on some basic commands with Panda. This would include sit, come and stay. That way when Panda starts to chew on your feet you can re direct her into a basic command. I would reward her with a treat so he knows that the command is the way she should be acting, I would also recommend starting her in puppy training classes to help with her attention. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Shelley. I do not recommend allowing her to chew on old shoes or clothing unless you do not mind her chewing on any shoes or clothing in your home. She will not be able to recognize the difference the old ones you have given her and items you are currently using. Instead, she needs plenty of exercise and time out of the house (walks, fetch, etc.) I also recommend enrolling her in puppy classes. This will be mentally stimulating for her. Then be clear with what toys are hers and encourage her to use them. Be consistent with her and she will learn. It does take time though. Good luck!

You may need to work on counter training him to modify this behavior. You may try training him to go to his bed when you command it and stay until you tell him to come out. I recommend to read a lot of books about dog training. I hope this helps.
