Why is my spayed dog bleeding on the bed and licking her bottom?

If they vet recommended spaying, I wondering if the bleeding is actually coming from her vulva. If it's definitely from her anus, she needs a rectal exam, abdominal x-rays, and then likely a colonocopy to look for the problem. I would be concerned about a cancerous growth.

Bleeding from the vulva in a spayed dog is not normal. Possible causes include bleeding from the urinary tract (UTI, urinary bladder stones, tumor) or bleeding from the vaginal vault (tumor or infection). I see what you mean in the picture provided, it looks like there is some blood there on the wee wee pad. I also see that Annie isn't spayed, so this could mean that she is going into heat for the first time. She is a small breed dog at seven months of age, and that age is when that can happen for the first time in small breed dogs. The other possibility is that she has a UTI, but I can't say for certain without seeing her in person. I would have her seen by a vet to determine if she is in heat or if she has UTI. No this is not normal, a spayed female should not be bleeding at all, either she has not been spayed properly or maybe she is suffering from a urinary disease, i would recommend taking her to the vet in order to get it checked.

If you have had her for a long time and she has never had this issue then she probably is spayed and the problem is caused by something else. Lulu could have a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a tumor causing her to spot blood. The only way to know would be to have her examined by a vet. A vet can run a urinalysis to look for an infection and take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose. You could try to find a low cost clinic in your area and see if they could help. She may just need an oral antibiotic to treat an infection so it might not be too costly. Hope she gets better soon!

It sounds like Angel had a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. It is concerning that she is licking her genital area more again and you now see a discharge coming from that region. While you can see some bloody draining from the incision site, you typically do not see any coming from the genital region itself. Given her recent history of a pyometra and the fact that I can't see her in person to say if she is ok or not, I think taking her into the emergency clinic is the best idea.

If a dog is spayed correctly they not long have heat cycles and should not be spotting or bleeding. If there is a discharge noted, it is best to start with a urine sample and an ultrasound to look at the bladder and kidneys and look at the cervix to see if there is an infection or a growth.
