Why is my Shih Tzu vomiting yellow foam, hacking, and tired?

It sounds as Shawndee is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

I would ask your vet if they think Ziko may have inflammatory bowel disease. This disease can cause ongoing vomiting and/or diarrhea. The treatment can range from a special hydrolyzed protein diet (your vet likely carries one in their office) to medications that decrease inflammation in the GI tract such as metronidazole, prednisone, budesonide, cyclosporine). Definitive diagnosis actually require a biopsy but sometimes we will treat if we are suspicious and then monitor response to treatment. I think it is worth discussing with your vet if this is a possibility with Ziko.

Poor guy. It is possible he has a bit of an upper respiratory infection. I would recommend getting him seen by your vet for something like this, because he will need the vet to listen to his lung and heart sounds for any abnormalities and clues as to what is going on internally. He may also need x-rays of his chest if there is severe congestion heard in his chest. I do hope that your fur baby Bobby is able to get this sorted out soon! Best wishes and take care.

Throwing up can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. Under normal circumstances I would recommend your grandmother fast the dog for 24 hours and then feed a bland diet of rice and boneless chicken. However, since Herman is not drinking and immediately regurgitating his food and water and is lethargic, there may be an obstruction and he needs to be seen at a PetER right away.
