My 2-month-old Shih Tzu puppy has vomiting and diarrhea. What to do?

She sounds pretty sick, and I'm concerned she isn't eating or drinking, having diarrhea, and has now vomited. If she isn't fully vaccinated, parvo could be causing her symptoms. It is a vaccination reaction if they are excessively vomiting. So if he vomited once or twice I just have people watch them. If you are concerned because it has been more then that I would recommend calling your veterinarian so they can treat him. It sounds as Shawndee is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Kisses! My biggest concern is how young and small Kisses is. With severe watery diarrhea she is at an increased risk for dehydration and low blood sugar. Causes of diarrhea in puppies are: intestinal parasites, viral (parvo or distemper) or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, food allergy/intolerance, reaction to a new food/treat/table food. Sometime we never know the exact cause. Since she is so young and small I would take her to the Vet today. If you can get a stool sample bring it with you. If she isn't up to date on vaccines they may test her for parvo virus. The Vet can send her home with medications to make her better faster. I hope this helps and I wish Kisses a speedy recovery!

I cannot legally recommend any OTC drugs without seeing her in person as well. You need to take her into a vet immediately, so please have her seen by an ER vet now. Best of luck.

I'm so glad that Tinny Bubbles is starting to feel better and not having any more vomiting or diarrhea. Often after a dog has had diarrhea, it will take a while for their stool to build up again, so they often won't have any stool for up to 48 hours once they have been treated. If Tinny Bubbles is straining to defecate, I would contact your veterinarian. Scourvet has a number of ingredients in it to resolve diarrhea, so be sure to continue to give it as directed by your veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have any more problems. If you are concerned that she is not doing well even after a visit to your veterinarian, I highly recommend that you have her reevaluated for further assessment. Keep in mind though that therapy sometimes can take a bit to take effect. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
