Why does my Shih Tzu pee when excited or nervous around visitors?

This should subside over time but one thing that may help is having any friends or family that are over to the house completely ignore Pinky until she calms down. You can even have them offer a treat and make her sit and stay to get her to calm down. This will help with the spontaneous urination due to excitation. I hope this helps! The best thing to help with this is trying to avoid the trigger (such as calling her name on a high pitch voice or getting vocally excited to see her, act). This may be out of a little uncertainty about who you are or even some fear regarding the interaction on his part. I think with some time and getting used to your presence again, Zeus will return to normal around you. I would suggest having plenty of positive interaction (play, giving treats, etc) to allow him to warm back up to you. Never force any interaction and it is best to allow him to approach you first. Hi. Congratulations on the new puppy. I'm sorry you were experiencing urination with excitement. This can be very common in puppies unfortunately. I would recommend having a urinalysis test done to make sure that she doesn't have a urinary tract infection. I would also recommend that your daughter and any other visitors ignore the puppy at first and talking in non-excited tones. Have her walk outside with you and go potty. Hopefully she will grow out of it. I would definitely discuss with your veterinarian also.

She could be urinating because she is excited to see you, or it could be submissive urination in that she is trying to show you she isn't a threat. It sounds like this could be submissive urination. It is a sign that Eclispe might be a little nervous or excited about you reaching down to pet her. Submissive urination is common in puppies and they often grow out of it as they age. When you’re petting Eclipse you should get down to her level and try to let her come to you - it’s important for you to not act too excited.
