Why is my Shih Tzu suddenly drooling excessively only when outside?

Tobie's heaving salivation could be due to dental disease, pain, or nausea. It is concerning that he has been salivating this much for two days, and it's time for him to see a vet. The vet will diagnose what is causing his salivation and how best to treat it. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning.

Excessive drooling can be caused by mouth problem (bad teeth, abscesses, wounds, blisters on the gums), stomach diseases (excessive acid production, reflux), infections, pain, nausea and more. Please, take Daisy to your local vets for an appointment. Excessive drooling should be always investigated and treated as required. Your vet may recommend some blood work or x-ray to find out what the is the problem. Good luck :)

Hi there I'm so sorry to hear about Oliver's troubles. First, and most importantly, I always ask if a drooling dog has had a rabies vaccine and if they may have come in contact with a wild animal or another dog or cat with unknown vaccine history. If any of the above is the case, even though the chances are low, I would still take precautions and make sure to avoid contact with the saliva or bodily fluids until Oliver sees his veterinarian. If he has had his rabies vaccine, or there is little to no chance that he could have come in contact with another infected animal, then I would be a little less cautious, but still take him in to see his veterinarian. He could be nauseous, which is a very common cause of nausea. This could be because he ate something he shouldn't have and it is bothering his stomach, or he had a recent change in diet, or a new treat introduced. Sometimes rawhide type chews can break off into pieces and get stuck in the stomach causing intermittent nausea. Puppies can also sometimes eat things like pieces of toy, blanket, or even rocks! Another reason a puppy or dog may drool is due to something going on with the teeth - fracture or infection, for example. A piece of foreign material, like a foxtail awn, if they are common in your area, can cause excessively drooling if they become lodged in the oral cavity as well. The above are some reasons for drooling, but there are many more. To be safe, since Oliver is so young, I would make an appointment with his veterinarian to have him checked. They can make sure he doesn't need any tests to be run, like Xrays or blood work, and they can also send home some medications to make him feel better, should it be something like an upset tummy. Drooling can be a sign of nausea which can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!

Excessive drooling in dogs is often caused my mouth problems, like gums infection or inflammation, tartar or other dental diseases. It hot months it could be caused by just high ambient temperature. If your puppy is otherwise well, you should monitor him for the next few days. However, if the drooling continues, if it becomes smelly or if he starts drooling from one side of the mouth only, you should get him checked by your local vets.

Either sh chewed/ingested something that is causing this reaction in her mouth or she may be experiencing severe nausea. give it a couple hours to calm down, if it doesn't get any better by then- take her to your vet to get it checked and treated.

Drooling/salivation could be caused by a number of things, including stress, excitement, nausea, dental pain, toxin ingestion, a foreign body stuck in the mouth, injury to the tongue (as can happen with electrical injury from chewing on electrical cords) or bloat. If Vinny could have eaten anything such as medications, household cleaners, plants, toys, food scraps, or garbage, please have him seen by a vet right away, and let your vet know about it to help them determine if there could be toxicity. If no medical cause is noted, it could be stress/excitement induced, and I recommend working with a trainer who uses positive reinforcement techniques to help manage Vinny's stress and help him feel comfortable around other dogs.
