Some dogs react badly to grooming, especially if made too short. You should try putting an e-collar around his neck to prevent him from biting and causing more damage to himself. If you do not see any improvement within 48 hours- you should take Boo to the vet in order to get treated.

I don't know why your dog is acting this way. If she is biting her back she may have an injury or irritation from the grooming that is causing her trouble. I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam as this is not normal behavior for her. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. This could also be mange for instance and an exam and diagnostics would be needed to know for sure. You can buy a cone though that is only going to temporarily help and the cause of the itchiness still needs to be worked up to get that resolved. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

If Prudence is wearing a collar, take it off for a few days. Check her over for fleas. You can place booties on her feet or a baby onesie on her to prevent scratching. This will allow healing to begin. Have her examined by your vet to diagnose skin infection or mites. If she has fleas or evidence of fleas such as flea dirt, you will need to treat her and the environment. Frontline Spray can be used on her safely. You will need to read labels of other topicals preventatives since most have age and weight restrictions. You can also discuss safe flea control with your vet.

It's good that she can't chew but that doesn't fix the underlying condition. Being itchy is miserable and you don't want her uncomfortable. The two most important things are to prevent further injury (good job on getting the cone) and to stop the underlying problem. You must get the fleas off of her, otherwise she will be itchy (and thus unhappy) but she will also want to chew on herself as soon as the cone is off. The flea shampoo will last for about 24 hours but beyond that, she does not have any protection. If you can't get the recommended products, you can try Frontline. It doesn't kill fleas as quickly and there can be some resistance issues but it is better than most over the counter products. Please post again with any further questions.

The fur will eventually regrow. It will not be as soft as the original coat and it may grow in darker. The redness and peeling may indicate infection due to irritation or licking after the clipping.
