Why is my senior German Shepherd aggressive, disoriented, and seizing?

It's possible that the seizures are due to a brain tumor, which is very likely due to his age. this means his condition will deteriorate regardless of the treatment, sometimes the deterioration takes several months and sometimes it's a matter of days.

I'm sorry Cody had a seizure and he possibly has a brain tumor. If he does have one, it is likely he may have more seizures, so I would discuss with your vet putting him on an anti seizure medication. There are drugs that can be used such as steroids to help reduce swelling in the brain or chemotherapy and radiation, but this depends on how much money you want to spend to treat him. Euthanasia is another option depending on the severity of his symptoms. To confirm he has a brain tumor, you can speak to his vet about having a CT or MRI done as well as x-rays to see if there is any cancer spread to places like his lungs. You need to take him to a vet for an exam. Any abnormal behavior, especially towards the side of aggression, need to be taken seriously. It very well could be a brain tumor. I don't know. It could also be the beginning stages of seizure activity. It could be from pain somewhere in/on his body. He needs a vet exam to try to find out what is going on with him.

Large breed dogs rarely live to be 12 years or older. Even if his blood testing (senior panel) is normal that doesn't mean everything is OK with him. Blood testing is not the only diagnostic tool we have to tell if an animal is healthy. It's a good place to start but it is not the end all, be all. I suggest you have some x-rays done of his chest and his abdomen. He may arthritis in his spine or other joints that is making him crabby. He may be showing signs of congnitive dysfunction (dementia). There are medications that may help him depending on what is going on. The first thing is ruling out medical issues (like arthritis, a tumor in the abdomen, an enlarged heart, etc). If nothing obvious is found then it is likely dementia and again, medications are available that may help him.

Sorry to hear about Munnu. The lab report you have attached does not provide any insight into the cause of his seizure activity. Unfortunately, a 12 year old dog with no previous history of seizures is most likely the result of a brain tumor or tumor elsewhere in the nervous system (this is of course in the absence of a known traumatic event to the head or neck). Other less likely causes would include certain infectious or inflammatory conditions, or extremely late onset epilepsy. I would recommend getting Munnu onto anticonvulsive drugs right away, and having his stabilized at your veterinarian if the seizures continue with regularity.

I would contact the veterinarian again and ask if they can provide you with a sedative / anti-anxiety medication prior to coming in and then have you muzzle her prior to bringing her in. Medications such as Trazodone and amitriptyline together can help with the anxiety. She really needs to be seen by a veterinarian and have her blood tested to see if there are any abnormal systemic changes that could be causing the symptoms you are describing. With her age, I am concerned about something systemic that could be abnormal or cancer. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. The sudden temperament change can be due to stress from a new baby or maybe an indication of pain or a neurological problem such as tumor or dementia. You can talk with your vet about medicine for pain but with a new baby it is probably safest to not chance it and always keep them separate. If the medicines do not help and her behavior continues then I am afraid your only other option is considering euthanasia for everyone’s safety. I am so sorry you are faced with this!
