My senior dog is vomiting all day. Should I call the vet now?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 15 years and 1 month old | 13 lbs

My dog, a 15 year old schnoodle, must have gotten into something in the backyard because he has been vomiting all day. His first few vomits were chunky and orange, but recently they have just been clear. He is drinking water but doesn't want any food. He hasn't had diarrhea, but I think he ate something in the backyard because my weimaraner was vomiting because of the same issue a week ago, but he returned to normal after a day. Should I call a vet if he is not better by tomorrow?

I would have Dave seen by a vet now if he's been vomiting all day. If his vomit is now clear, I'd be concerned that he's vomiting water as well. Given he's a senior dog, he can quickly become dehydrated, which isn't good for his kidneys. My recommendation would be to take him into a vet now who may give him a shot to stop the vomiting, IV fluids for hydration, and any other treatment necessary.

    There are numerous reasons why he may be vomiting and not eating, but unfortunately it will require an exam and possibly other diagnostic tests in order to determine the diagnosis. If his issues have gone in for more than 24-48 hours, your veterinarian should look at him to see what may be going on. He may have a bacterial infection, viral infection, may have eaten something that is making him sick, may have kidney or liver issue or possibly a mass or tumor involving the GI tract. Since he vomits anything he is ingesting, it is really not possible to treat this at home. Dozer should see his veterinarian ASAP.

Given Boomer's older age and the acute onset of the vomiting/diarrhea, I would have him seen sooner rather than later by a veterinarian. Boomer could just have an upset stomach, but he also could have a foreign body, an infection or even a tumor causing these signs. Your vet will perform a full physical exam and determine if any additional diagnostic testing is needed (bloodwork, xrays ) and what treatments he made need. Good luck!

My senior dog vomited, now she's weak and slow. Should I worry?
At her age, we definitely want to take changes like this seriously. If she's eating and drinking, breathing 10-30 breaths per minute while resting, able to get up and move around, and has normal pink gums, it doesn't sound like an emergency, but I would recommend a vet visit in the next few days if she doesn't go back to normal.

Hi I'm sorry to hear that Sabo is unwell. There are many many potential causes for her to vomit frequently. With her age, I am concerned about kidney or liver issues. But also pancreatitis is common in her breed. Take her to your vet first thing tomorrow. They will run blood tests to check her internal organs.

Hello, sorry to hear about Vanilla. If she is done this once or twice, you should remove any food for the rest of the day and start her on a bland diet later on. This can be composed of plain white rice, skinless and boneless chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve her vomiting, or if she vomits more than 4 times in one day then Vanilla should be seen by a veterinarian today. This could be caused by a large number of things but in older dogs, inflammation of the intestines, a dietary indiscretion, liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, or even some form of infection could cause vomiting in a dog. Throwing up water is very serious, as it can quickly lead to dehydration. I see that Dolly isn't spayed, and her vomiting and not eating can be due to a pyometra. A pyometra is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. I would have her seen by a vet immediately.
