My senior dog has a growing lump on his face. Should I see a vet?

That looks like a growth, not a nipple. In a dog Rocco's age, there is always a chance any growth can be malignant and if it is, it does need to be removed surgically. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I would give his vet a call to make him an appointment to be seen in the next couple of days. Best of luck.

That looks like a mole or wart that is not unusual for older dogs to get. If your vet offers the option of sending them a pic of something since your dog does get so stressed, they may be willing to tell you their opinion based on what they see in the photo. Ideally, it would be seen by your vet for a definitive diagnosis, but you may just want to keep an eye on it. If it abruptly changes size, shape. color, or texture, then you should get it checked by your vet right away.

This lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis. i'm not sure the vomiting and lack of appetite is related to the lump, it could be, but it needs to be treated by your vet as well.

Hi there. That appears to be just a benign wart or cyst. I would not worry about it at all. Just monitor it and if it starts to change in color, shape, size or it starts to bother Terry then you should get him to your vet for an exam. I don't expect that will happen. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I always recommend having a skin lump evaluated by a veterinarian right away in an older dog. While hair loss from trauma or a skin infection is possible, a tumor could look similar. Some autoimmune skin diseases also start this way. Your veterinarian might want to take a sample with a small needle if the area is raised or may recommend going ahead and removing the lesions while they are small to send out for a biopsy.

I am afraid it is not possible to properly identify this growth from a photo. This could be a wart, a cutaneous horn (both benign), or a tumor or just a tissue reaction. In order to identify such a growth we need to palpate it, determine whether it is solely in the skin or attached under the skin, movable against certain tissues, has a discharge, compare the visible size with the size in or under the skin, take a fine needle biopsy, etc. and give the dog a general exam. If this growth appeared suddenly or appears to be growing, I suggest you take Oskar to your vet to have it examined. Old dogs often get tumors, most of the time they are benign warts, but sometimes they can be bad cancer.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Is that supposed to be the same growth in both photos? The growth if the first photo looks suspicious for a malignant tumor. The tissue around the mass is swollen and the mass itself is raised and ulcerated; both can be signs of a malignancy. I cannot tell you for sure though just by looking at a photo. The second photo looks like a benign wart. In general, any new lumps/bumps should be examined by your vet. The first photo looks worrisome and I think you should have it checked in the next few days.
