My senior dog has bloody urine. When should I see the vet right away?

I'm sorry Pebbles has been having such problems with UTIs! This is a great question. This depends. If she appears otherwise healthy and happy, eats and drinks plenty, you can wait until Monday morning. If she appears lethargic, ill or distressed, or if the urine appears very bloody, then she should be seen by a vet ASAP. Feed her wet/canned food, add water to it, and make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush the bladder.

She likely has a urinary tract infection or possibly bladder stones. If you can't get her in any sooner than Monday and can't call them to ask for advice or to move up the appointment and she still seems otherwise okay, get her seen Monday. If she does start feeling sick or has trouble urinating, take her to an emergency clinic, just understand that at any vet right now the wait may be long unless she is an emergency and in very bad shape. I don't know of any products you can buy over the counter that will help, and using OTC products could actually mask symptoms that could help lead to a faster diagnosis when she does get to her appointment.

As long as he is able to urinate and he is fairly active in himself, I would recommend to wait before giving any medication as if urine culture will be needed, then urine needs to be taken directly from the bladder without previous antibiotic treatment. My recommendation would be to hold on until tomorrow am.

Poor Moca! I'm sorry to hear she's having these issues! Bloody urine can indicate an infection, bladder stones, inflammation in the bladder or vagina, and unfortunately sometimes even cancer. Her skin sounds very uncomfortable and could be related to allergy, infection, yeast overgrowth, or a number of other issues. I'd recommend taking Moca to see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Her conditions sound quite painful and it is likely she will need some testing and medication to treat. Without an examination it is impossible to say what the underlying issues are so an examination with a veterinarian will be needed to figure out a treatment plan for her. If your elderly dog has vaginal bleeding you should have her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible because that is not normal. If she has not been spayed it could be a sign of a uterus infection called pyometra which can be fatal if not treated immediately. Also it could be possible that she has blood in her urine which could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or possibly stones. If she worsens in any way, becomes lethargic, starts vomiting, or starts bleeding more, you should have her seen by a veterinarian immediately.
