Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 15 lbs

I have taken in a new dog. He is estimated to be 10 + years. My main concern is a movable soft lump on his belly. Second is the area above one of his eyes is red. He seems be blinking more on the left side with the eye redness. The lump on his stomach does not seem to bother him. What should I do about both?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The lump on the stomach is most likely a benign tumor. As long as it is not bothering Taz, it is not bleeding and it is not increasing in size, you should monitor it at home.
The left eye looks sore indeed. It could be caused by eye infection, allergic reaction, trauma to the eye, corneal scratch and more. Please, take Taz to your local vets for an appointment. Full ophthalmic examination should allow making the diagnosis and adequate treatment can be started. Also, your vet will be able to examine the lump to confirm that there is nothing to worry about.
