Why is my 12-year-old dog having accidents and not using pee pads?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My 12 y.o. Chihuahua/jack Russell keeps wetting and defacating in the house. I have put down pee pads and he will pee a foot from it or on the carpet. What can I do?

I would recommend taking Sammy to a veterinarian to have him evaluated. It may be something as simple as a urinary tract infection but there can be more going on with him. I would recommend a good physical examination, blood work, urine and a stool sample. That way they can rule out urinary tract infection, intestinal parasites and look to make sure his kidneys and liver are functioning properly.
