Can I give salmon oil to my dog with kidney issues directly or mixed?

Salmon oil belongs in the category of Omega 3 fatty acids, & while the direct pharmacological action is unknown, omega-3s do have anti-inflammatory properties & have proven useful in a number of conditions, including renal failure. No, I would not give this to a cat who has kidney problems. Studies have found that supplementation with these fatty acids may cause renal damage. It's very important have strictly controlled protein in diets of cats with kidney disease, and giving them these may through off the balance.

Essential Fatty Acids are always a good idea in my opinion since they are part of every living cell of the body and they are anti inflammatory. I don't know of any diseases where fish oil is not recommended. One thing you want to be careful of is the quality of the oil and whether contaminants (mercury, etc) are present. Supplements are not regulated (in the United States) so the quality varies significantly. I would choose my source of fish oil carefully and follow the directions based on body weight. You can giver omega 3 fish oil, i recommend using a pet omega product (dosage will be written on the label). vitamin supplement are usually not necessary in dogs with liver failure but supplement such as Milk Thistle is recommended.

I recommend stopping that immediately unless directed by your Vet. As for the fish oil, that is fine but how often depends on the brand you are using. Yes human fish oil is fine to give to Bobby and you can put it in his food. Do not give him too much, as he's already eating a salmon based food and will be getting fish oil from there. Too much fish oil causes problems.
