Why is my Rottweiler losing hair, smelling bad, and full of ticks?

The smell usually indicates skin infection, so ideally you should take Jaceky to your local vets to get a course of antibiotics. Alternatively, you can first clip the wounds from the hair and use antiseptic solution ( 4% chlorhexidine would be best) and clean it twice a day. Also, make sure that your dog doesn't lick or scratch the wounds. For ticks, the most effective treatments are spot-on skin solutions that you can buy over-the-counter at pet shops or online.

I would recommend using a flea and tick preventative such as Frontline, Nexgard or Bravecto. He will likely need a shampoo to help soothe his skin after the ticks die. It might be a bacterial skin infection, fungal infection, allergic dermatitis, etc. You could bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be examined by a veterinarian for treatment. Your veterinarian can do a skin scrape, cytology and/or culture to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, antifungal, corticosteroid, and or other medications.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tofy! We would need a closer picture of the tick and we would need to see the under side as well to identify the tick. I would recommend the Seresto collar or the oral flea and tick preventatives like Nexgard, Simparica and Bravecto. Vinegar does not kill any species of tick. In my experience the natural products do not work for ticks or fleas and the risk of the diseases they transmit is greater than the use of non-natural products. Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Ticks live in the grass and jump on animals/cloths, and then bite and stay attached. Fleas will live in bedding/baseboards and will jump on and bite animals and then jump off. If you get a product such as Frontline, Bravecto, Nexguard, Advantix, Advantage, Revolution, etc. that should deal with fleas. Some will deal with ticks, but some won't. I would check to see if you aren't actually dealing with bed-bugs. Try getting a picture of the creatures that are on Bruno, and are crawling towards him, and we can try to help you determine what they are and what to use. Best of luck with Bruno!

Did they treat him even if they didn't find them? I typically recommend putting them on an oral flea and tick prevention if I suspect mites. This is off-label for mites but helps. Oral flea and tick preventions are prescriptions so your veterinarian would have to write one or approve it. I would also be concerned about a secondary infection and would recommend medication if one exists. WIthout see Bedog it is difficult to say if there is one or not. The red patches on her stomach could be due to ant bites out in the yard/on walks, or could be skin irritation if she is licking at her vulva. Licking at the vulva and getting a moist pyoderma (little red spots or infection) is common in young unspayed females as they often get vaginitis. The treatment is to have her spayed. Also, check the yard for ants or other little bugs that could be biting her. The hair loss around the eyes could be due to mange. If she is stressed or sick otherwise, the normal flora mange on her skin could be causing her to lose fur around the eyes. Also, she could have sarcoptic mange which can cause itchiness, but this is less likely. I would be more concerned about dermotic mange. I would recommend having her seen by a vet, and they will likely check her lymph nodes, and also do a skin scraping of the skin around her eyes. Best of luck with Cairo.
