My adopted dog has no vaccine records. Should I revaccinate her?

I have a pomperanian called Candle, we got her from my friend, they have a rlly complicated situation going on in their home and cannot take care of her so my friend gave Candle to me, but they losed their adoption paper and her daughter who adopted candle from a rescue arent in contact with my friend anymore. So now we doesnt have any of her paper or vaccine record. Should we just revaccine her or what can we do bc we need her vaccine paper for haircut and in case something happens.

If you can find out where Candle was adopted from, you could contact the shelter and they should have records of when Candle was vaccinated.
Otherwise I suggest you take her to your vet and discuss this with him. He may be able to find out also, or will recommend a vaccination schedule that will fit with Candles condition and age.

In most cases, you'll need owner permission in order for records to be transferred over, so while you can contact the vet, you may not be able to obtain full records. That said, they may at least be able to confirm neuter/vaccine status for you so you can let your vet know. I would not rely upon this person having given the vaccines properly nor that the feed store kept the so-called cooling chain, ie that the vaccine did not get warm somewhere along the way and became useless. I suggest you start from the beginning. Take your dog to your vet for a basic exam to make sure she is healthy, and have her vaccinated as per recommendation of your vet. Also discuss having her spayed if you do not want to breed her.

How to know if my adopted dog has all her necessary vaccines?

I would be suspicious that if the person you adopted Lucy from didn't give you those other vaccine records that she has not had them. They should have been included with her rabies record. You can ask that person for them, or for permission to speak to the vet who administered the rabies vaccines to see if she received her other vaccines. If they refuse to give you that information, it's likely she hasn't had her other vaccines, and I would take Lucy into the vet to have them done.

Should my adopted dog get a rabies shot if I don't have his records?

If he is due the rabies shot regardless of other vaccination history you could go ahead and get it. You can ask the vet to leave some space on he vaccine card before recording the rabies so they can add the previous vaccines when the history arrives.

Just adopted a puppy with no vaccine records. Should I get him shots?

I would recommend getting his vaccinations redone if there is no proof. It will not harm him and this will ensure he is fully protected. It is just too risky to assume he is protected with no proof. He will need the DHLPP and Bordetella. He will then need 1 booster done in 3 weeks and that will fully protect him for a year. I hope that your newly adopted pet Tanner does well moving forward. Do I need to redo my new dog's shots if vaccine records are missing?

Hello there! You don't need to re-do their vaccines, but you should get Kaida in to complete the series as soon as possible. When the shelter said she had all her vaccines, they probably meant all her vaccines for her age. My adopted adult dog never got vaccines. Is it safe to vaccinate now?

No - it will not hurt her and I would definitely recommend getting her vaccinated! There are many dogs in shelters who get their vaccines as adults. Some core vaccines like the DAP combo might require a booster while others like rabies don’t.
