Rescued a puppy, don't know breed or age. What's next for puppy care?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 1 month and 16 days old | 5 lbs

I recently got this puppy from a friend. They saw the previous owner throw him out on the side of the road and stopped and got him. There's only one problem, we have no idea what kind of dog he is or how old! I plan to take him to the vet this weekend but I was wondering if you could offer any information about his breed, or advice about raising a new puppy. Anything is appreciated.

From th epictures he looks likehe may be a medium-large collie type and should do very well with obedience training and should be intelligent and high energy, Be sure to keep him occupied in order to prevent any desructive tendencies and consider crate training also. HE should be fed 4 times a day at such a young age and be sure to keep him up to date with monthly deworming medications. Your vet can help to estimate his age from his teeth and advise on dates for vaccination schedule
