Is it okay to remove my dog's e-collar for a short period of time?

Even under supervision, animals that are recovering come surgery can bother their incision site, so it is preferred and advised that the e collar stays on her for the specified time indicated by your veterinarian or unless told otherwise by your vet. Having it on her at all times lessens the chance of agitating the incision site and prolonging healing times. Hope this helps and I hope Blossom has a swift recovery!

I would recommend you check the scrotal area first and make sure it is dry with no discharge or swelling. If none are seen then you can remove it. A week's time should be plenty. Dogs should not be left in a crate with a collar on, or left unsupervised anywhere where there is something that could get hooked on the collar, as this poses a potential strangulation risk. They should also not be left unsupervised while playing with other dogs with a collar on, as this could lead to strangulation if the other dog grabs the collar. You can remove the collar at night if your dog is in a secure area where he cannot accidentally get loose or escape, as you can't monitor Oscar at night while sleeping.

Yes the fluid was probably from her being overly active. I would not remove the e-collar until the scab area has healed like the rest of the incision. You can take it off while you are with her and see if she licks it. Then put it back on for a few more days when you’re not able to monitor her. Thank you for the picture. The incision looks like it has healed really well. Yes it is normal to see some scabbing and from the picture, I don't see any obvious signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus). It takes 10-14 days to fully heal an incision so to be safe, I would keep it on for 14 days, then you can remove it. Frequently, vets who do the surgery like a recheck to be safe, so I'd give his vet a call just to check if you need to bring him in or not. I hope this helps!

From what I can see in your picture I think everything looks good, but it can sometimes be difficult to evaluate from a picture alone. I typically recommend waiting at least 10 days until removing the e-collar but some vets might recommend more or less time. I think it would be best to follow your vet's instructions. If they didn't specify you should wait to remove the e-collar until you can contact them.
