What are these yellow bumps on my puppy? Should I see a vet?

If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It looks like Chowder has a skin infection. This is common in puppies due to their weak immune system. I recommend taking him to a vet for oral antibiotics. You can try bathing him in puppy shampoo and make sure he is fully dry, but oral antibiotics are needed to cure the pustules. Please, take your Charlie to your local vets for an appointment as he will likely need treatment with skin ointment with antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory agent.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what I can tell via your photo, this looks a lot like puppy pyoderma-a very common condition among young dogs. Essentially, these are "pimples" for puppies and usually caused by staph bacteria. I will usually try to rule out any underlying flea problem resulting in pustules, etc when I see these patients. If I see nothing else of concern I will usually prescribe antibiotics for 10-14 days at which point the breakout has usually cleared up. I would recommend seeing your vet to do these things as well-Lala will be much more comfortable without pustules. I hope this helps!

This is called puppy pyoderma. It’s a mild skin infection that puppies often get. You can bathe the area with anti bacterial shampoo every few days and that should clear it up. If it is getting worse or the puppies seem sick then bring them in for a exam and treatment. They may need oral antibiotics. Also make sure the bedding is soft and dry. A vet’s visit would be best to determine whether the yellow scab are from dermatitis/pyoderma which is a fairly common skin infection. A Medicated shampoo such as Malaseb (available on PetCo.com, chewy.com, 1800Petmeds) that contains chlorhexidine and ketoconazole that is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-seborrheal (will help remove greasy flakes) used to shampoo the belly 2-3 times a week for 2-3 weeks, leaving the suds on 5-10 min prior to rinsing for optimal efficacy may be helpful. (Towel dry but never use a hair dryer on a puppy to avoid burns.) An in person physical exam would still be advisable as other skin conditions such as ringworm can possibly present as yellow flakes and would likely require more than Malaseb shampoo to treat. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Boondi. This is a bacterial infection caused by a staphylococcus organism which is a normal skin resident. This is very common in puppies due to an immature immune system, nutritional/intestinal parasite problems, and environmental causes. I would advise taking the puppy to your veterinarian for an examination. Your vet can advise you on treating this condition and also on providing the best preventive health care (vaccines, deworming, etc). If you cannot get to a veterinarian, I would advise a benzoyl peroxide medicated shampoo. Lather her up well with the shampoo and leave the lather on for 10 minutes so it can work. Rinse very well. Repeat this 2-3 times weekly until improvement occurs then decrease to once weekly until gone. She might need antibiotics to help clear this up. Good luck
