My puppy has yellow, pus-filled bumps on his tummy. What is it?

Hi there! I'm so sorry to read about Choco's troubles. It looks like he has a pustule. This is basically a pimple-like lesion caused very often by a staph infection. Sometimes the lesions are singular, or sometimes they can spread and get worse. If I have dog come in to see me with pustules, I will often prescribe a medicated shampoo to help clean the skin and also moisturize it. Dry skin can cause a break in the skin barrier and allow bacteria to congregate. I also will often times prescribe a course of oral antibiotics, to insure that the infection doesn't spread, and goes away quickly. I would monitor the lesion, and make an appointment to see Choco's veterinarian. They can evaluate Choco's skin and make sure there is nothing else going on, and see if the infection is severe enough for topical and oral medications. I hope you find this answer helpful! Hello. This may be just a simple skin infection caused by a staph infection. This is very common in puppies. Sometimes bathing twice weekly in an antibacterial shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide or chlorhexidine can be just as effective as oral antibiotics. Your puppy may have puppy impetigo which is a bacterial skin infection. Have your vet take a look at her to diagnose and treat. She may need an antibacterial shampoo and/or an oral antibiotic to treat.

It looks like you've done a lot to help this little guy. I'm sure the vet would have told you this, but make sure you are stimulating him to poop after each feeding by wiping his bum with a warm, moist, tissue or soft cloth. Puppies commonly get this on their bellies and they usually go away with good cleaning. I recommend cleaning the belly with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bump(s) are gone. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take him into the vet for an exam. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Churro may have a bit of a condition called puppy pyoderma. It is actually a mild staph infection. You can use a mild disinfectant such as betadine or 2% chlorhexidine in warm water. Bathe him daily for a few minutes & rinse thoroughly. If this does not help in a few days, then he may need to see his veterinarian & be placed on a course of antibiotics. Once this clears, he should not whine as much.
