My puppy is sick and has something coming from his rear. Is it worms?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Benji. The first thing to determine is of he is regurgitating or vomiting as they are due to different causes. Vomiting is accompanied by signs of nausea, retching and abdominal contractions. Regurgitation is the passive upbringing of food. The puppy may be surprised the the food the food or water slipping up. Vomiting and diarrhea (or soft stool) are common in young puppies. This can be due to a diet change, intestinal parasites or stress from an environment changed. Regurgitation is typically caused by a severe congenital anomaly when evident in a very young puppy. He will need to see his veterinarian to determine the cause of his signs. I hope this information helps!

The most likely diseases are as follows: 1. Parvo, a virus that primarily attacks the immune system and intestines of dogs and is very lethal if left without supportive care. 2. Intestinal parasites which can cause intestinal blockage and even anemia (depletion of red blood cells). 3. Other viruses with varying severities. This is not an exhaustive list, just the most common things for a puppy. They will all lead to dehydration and other secondary issues which can all be severe enough to cause death. Whatever the underlying disease, he looks very ill and needs attention from a veterinarian immediately. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible. That does not look like a normal intestinal worm. Intestinal worms are white or light yellow. I suspect this is something he ate. Wrap it up in a baggie and take it to be examined by your veterinarian. To be safe, have the store checked for worms since some rooms can be spread to humans. That does look like a worm, and it appears to be a tapeworm segment. Dogs get tapeworms from fleas, so if Coochie and the puppy both have had fleas, that's how they would have gotten it. They will require praziquantel to treat it, which is a prescription drug from the vet. I recommend Drontal, it's an excellent deworming treatment that has praziquantel in it. Make an appointment for both of them to see the vet to be treated. The vet can confirm they have tapeworms, and can prescribe them Drontal. Coochie needs to be flea treated, and you will need to speak with the vet to estimate how hold the puppy is so a safe flea treatment for her can be determined. Best of luck!

I'm very sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, this problem sounds quite serious. I can't tell what might be wrong without being able to examine him, but if he is in obvious pain and can't get up, he needs to be seen by an emergency vet immediately. He may be injured or very sick, or may have ingested something toxic. Regardless of the underlying cause, these symptoms suggest that he has a serious, life-threatening problem that needs immediate veterinary care. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency clinic right away for an exam and treatment - I'm afraid there is nothing at all you can do at home for a problem this severe.

The worms can be tapeworms and they often look like small pieces of rice. They get these from eating a flea. It can cause itching and irritation around there anus. However an infectedcor impacted anal gland can also cause the same symptoms and can rupture if untreated. I would take him to the vet to have the worms confirmed and get medicine for that. They can also chechnyhebgkabds to make sure antibiotics aren't needed to help. This does not have to be as an emergency thiugh, if he is eating and drinking well you can schedule an appointment for tomorrow

I'm so sorry to hear that Benji is not feeling well. Since the areas affected are only on the head and neck, I would be worried that you are dealing with something that we call puppy strangles.
