My puppy won't play. Could he be sick, tired, or something else?

Puppies do go through growth spurts where they can be a bit lethargic for a few days. If Cody seems well and is getting enough to eat I wouldn't worry too much, give it a few days and if he doesn't brighten up visit the vet just to check there isn't a medical reason.

There could be many reasons that he has slowed down and doesn't seem as active. It could be related to arthritis, neck/back pain, endocrine disease, infections, kidney/liver disease, parasites, etc. Have a vet take a look at him to help determine the cause. Your vet can run lab-work and take x-rays to help diagnose and treat. He may need an anti-inflammatory and joint supplements to help.

For puppies that are still eating and drinking but lethargic and no signs of GI issues I would be suspicious of a couple of things: 1) puppy is just sleeping more now because he is still growing, Pitt Bull terriers and other large breed dogs can go through pretty fast growth spurts and this can definitely cause pups to sleep more. 2) If puppy is overly lethargic and running out of breathe easily or becoming intolerant to exercise or play I would be suspicious of a cardiovascular abnormality. I would recommend you schedule an appointment to have a vet do a heart auscultation (listen to the heart with microscope) to ensure your pets heart does not have any arrhythmia's or murmurs.

I recommend that you have Tippy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I’m so sorry Lilith isn’t feeling herself. Has she had any vomiting or diarrhea? Coughing or sneezing? Has she been vaccinated yet? These are all things I think about with a young puppy not feeling well. I worry about infectious diseases most often at this age, such as parvovirus, distemper, or parasites. They also become dehydrated very quickly. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. I'm very sorry Sadie isn't feeling well! I can understand they you might be worried, but it is a good sign that she is eating every meal and drinking water. Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it can be caused by many different things such as systemic illness, infection, injury, or inflammation. I would monitor her for now, and if she is still lethargic in 24-48 hours, I would take her into the vet for a health check.

Puppies depending on their age can sleep quite a bit and not be very playful if for example less than 2 months of age. If your pup is older and you think may be sick due to other symptoms, it would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, your pup may be fine.
