My puppy suddenly won't eat or play. What's wrong? Is she sick?

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on your description this could be a number of things. She is a large breed growing puppy so they often go through spurts of sleepiness where they may not eat as much of their food. With that said, this should then be followed by a spurt of activeness and engorging in her food, within a 24 hr period. If she is lethargic and not eating well for more than a day, then she may have an infection and should be checked out by your vet asap. Pets also don't often pee on themselves, even at this age. This concerns me for a possible urinary tract infection, which causes her to have an inflamed bladder, which then causes her to not be able to pee in a designated area. At almost 3 months of age though, she may still be potty training. At any rate, it is best to get her seen with such vague symptoms, just to make sure she doesn't have an infection and to get her treated right away if there is one present. I'm so sorry to hear that Diablo isn't feeling well. Without knowing Diablo's age, it's hard to know exactly how concerned to be, but vomiting, weakness, and not eating are very concerns signs. I would recommend taking Diablo to his veterinarian as soon as possible. If that's not possible, feed him a bland diet of boiled chicken (or other simple meat) and rice, with some extra water mixed in. Without treatment, he may keep getting more sick. I would be concerned about parvo virus, an intestinal blockage, or something else depending on his age.

Lethargy and a loss of appetite are both signs of illness that can include dental disease, systemic illness, infection, or injury. Without seeing her in person, I can't narrow it down. Hi there! I'm very sorry to hear about Kimi's troubles. If I had a client call and report the clinical signs you are describing, I'd ask to see the puppy right away. Young puppies, especially smaller ones, can be susceptible to getting a low blood sugar if they go a long time without eating. Not to mention that they can get dehydrated fairly easily as well. I'd definitely recommend Kimi go in to see her veterinarian right away. The veterinarian can perform an exam and check her hydration status. They may also want to check Kimi for an infection of some kind, and/or evaluate some diagnostics like radiographs and lab work. Kimi may need some in-hospital treatments or even just some medications for you to give at home. Things that can make puppies not feel well and stop eating include, but aren't limited to viruses, baceterial infections, ingesting toxic materials, ingesting pieces of toy or blanket and getting a blockage, eating anything out of the ordinary and getting indigestion, or even parasites. Hello. I am sorry to hear that Sugar is feeling so sick. When a puppy is lying around, not eating or drinking they are usually very ill. This may be either an infection (like Parvo), a problem she was born with (a congenital problem), or possibly something she ate or got into. I understand you are short on finances. Please offer Sugar some baby food directly into her mouth. If she will not take baby food from you and has not eaten all day her blood sugar may get dangerously low. You should see if she can lick up a small amount of karo syrup to try and increase her blood sugar level. If at all possible I would get her to an emergency veterinarian tonight to have her assessed. At least an exam can give you a lot of information about her vitals and they can lead you in the right direction to try and get her better. I hope the best for her.

If she is not eating, it will be easy for her to become dehydrated as she likely will not be stimulated to drink as much. If she is experiencing any vomiting or diarrhea this could be the cause of her inappetance. If not, see if she is coughing, sneezing or has any eye or nose discharge. These are all signs of illness in a dog. In the meantime, encourage her to eat as best you can. I hope this information helps!

Hi, I think Lola is not 100% if she is refusing to eat and just wanting to sit on your lap. I would recommend that you have her checked over as puppies are quite delicate and need to be eating regularly. She could have parasites or just a little temperature for example, it could be something quite simple but obviously that could cause her to feel poorly. Have her seen by your vet so that she can get any necessary treatment. Hope she gets better soon !
