Is my 2-month-old puppy's wobbliness and eating habits normal?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Ozzy is so cute! One thing that comes to mind right away is if any dewormings have been performed. Puppies get infected with intestinal parasites from their mother before birth and while nursing. Deworming of puppies should be done as early as 2 weeks of age and should be done every 3 weeks for at least 3-4 dewormings. This is usually why puppies have pot bellies. I hope this helps. Poor puppy. These symptoms of being wobbly, with no associated vomiting or diarrhea, don't necessarily mean he got into a poison. Typically there are some GI symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea) when a pet ingests something they shouldn't have. There could be an internal problem going on or a primary neurological condition. Also a possibility is an adverse reaction to a recent topical flea product or heartworm medication. The Benadryl will likely make him a bit sleepy, so don't be alarmed if you see that. I would consider taking him to your ER vet for further testing, if there is no immediate suspicion for his symptoms, because treating the underlying problem right away is our primary goal here, so that we can hopefully reverse the neurological symptoms before they cause permanent damage. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Eli. If he is still experiencing these symptoms, then he needs to see a veterinarian right away. Puppies can experience low blood sugar which will make them weak and wobbly. If he felt better after eating, then this could be the case. If this is not the case, then an intoxication is a possibility. Did he eat anything that he shouldn't have recently? Either way, it is good to have him evaluated. I hope this information helps!

Very young puppies can be a little uncoordinated when they are moving, but I would worry that Happy might also be showing signs of hypoglycemia which is common in toy breed puppies. I would recommend having him examined by an emergency veterinarian just in case - hypoglycemia can be life threatening if untreated. You could try offering him some food before you head to the vet. I also think 6 weeks is too young to be separated from mom - ideally puppies should stay with their dam until they are 7-8 weeks of age for proper development and nutrition.

Sometimes small breed puppies can have hypoglycemic episodes. Because of this its important to feed them multiple snacks throughout the day. I recommend taking Koko to see her veterinarian soon just to make sure that there is nothing that requires medical treatment.

In terms of the appetite, this is sometimes not uncommon in puppies when they are in their new environment. I recommend that you continue to monitor him for now, especially if you just got him. If these symptoms of not eating well and sleeping a large portion of the day do not improve, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment. Decreased appetite is concerning in a puppy because of the potential very serious gastrointestinal infections such as parvovirus that they can get. Monitor him closely for progression of his already decreased appetite, nausea (which may manifest as drooling, decreased appetite and lip smacking), vomiting, severe lethargy and/or diarrhea. If any of these signs are observed, have him evaluated right away. I think that if he is otherwise doing fine, then it is ok to monitor him for now. If he has not improved by tomorrow, then have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Make sure that he is drinking water to avoid dehydration. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!
