Should my 1-year-old puppy eat wet food daily for optimal health?

Most commercially available canned foods are still balanced diets. As long as Zoey is eating a food formulated for growing puppies, she should still be meeting all of her nutritional needs. However, being a small breed dog, she is naturally more prone to developing dental issues as she ages. Dry food is a bit more abrasive to the teeth, which will help to decrease tartar formation. You can try mixing a small amount of dry food with her wet food to try to tempt her to eat it. Otherwise, be sure to brush her teeth daily to maintain oral health. Be sure that you are feeding a high quality brand of food (Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Royal Canin are some of my favorites), and keep Zoey on puppy food until she is 1 year old. Anytime you change flavors or brands of food, mix the old and new foods together over 5-7 days for a slower transition to decrease the incidence of vomiting and diarrhea. Wet food should be just fine provided that you stay on top of brushing her teeth. :-) I hope that all goes well!

You can ask all the questions you want! Purina ProPlan is an excellent food, I highly recommend it. Do not switch it, switching food causes GI upset in dogs. They don't get bored with the flavor of food, they will happily eat the same flavor of food their whole life. Dry food is just fine, but you can give Bailey some wet food as a treat once a week. It's fine to mix together wet food and dry food for Buddy. Each brand of food has a different daily recommended allotment, so read the instructions on his food to know how much to feed him. Best of luck.

I recommend you feed dry food that is made for xtra small dogs like this one from Royal Canin. Yes, you can mix some canned food into it as well. It is best to feed multiple small meals per days with these little micro/mini breeds as they tend to get low blood sugar if they go too long between meals. Small meals 3-4 times per day is best - mostly dry food and just a touch of the wet food. Do this until about 6 months of age then you can go to feeding twice per day. ( ) ( ) Please don't give grain free diets. They are not necessary and there is actually a new study out that has linked grain free diets to heart disease/failure in dogs. Hope this helps. I normally recommend feeding adult dogs twice daily. However, if she is eating canned food, you do not want to leave it out for her all day. Hello there! Yes, it is perfectly fine to feed the foods separately just be mindful of portion control as Daisy is still a growing puppy. I would recommend half of the recommended amounts of each of the foods.
