Affordable ways to help my thin 6-month-old puppy gain weight after parvo?

My dog is thin. He had recovered from parvovirus in january. He is of 6months. How to make him fat? I can't afford royal canin because it's costly.

You should definitely feed a puppy food. Purina Pro Plan and Iams are good foods that are a little less expensive. If your puppy still isn't gaining weight you should see a vet - parasites, food sensitivities or pancreatic diseases may be keeping him from gaining weight.

Parvo makes a puppy quite sick, and it will take time for Max to gain weight. You don't want him to gain weight too quickly, so keep feeding him the premium food, and hopefully he should start gaining some weight soon.

Hello. Generally, once recovers from Parvo, they go on the have a perfectly normal life. But with severe infections, there can be quite a delay in recovery of overall body condition. If Tyson is eating well, is parasite free, has normal bowel movements, he should mature to his full potential. It will take her some time to recover and get back to a good weight. You may want to ask her vet about a critical care diet to get her back eating. This is prescription canned food that is high in calories. Start by feeding her this and slowly mix in puppy food. She does need to get back in puppy food for balanced diet. Be patient and keep offering small, frequent meals and she should start perking back up. She was very sick for at least a week. It takes time to recover back to normal. She will need lots of rest and sleep as she heals too.

The Royal Canin Giant Starter is a balanced diet on it's own. You do not need to, nor should you, feed anything else. Fruits are not good - too high in sugar. The egg and cottage cheese are probably fine but really not necessary. I understand you may be vegetarian but please understand that dogs are not and they need meat in order to survive. My recommendation is to only feed the Royal Canin. He doesn't appear to be too thin in the photos.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would be sure he is on a good quality large breed puppy food. I like Purina Proplan or the Royal Canin or Hill's Science diet puppy foods. Feed him more than the recommended amount on the bag. At 11 weeks old he should be seeing your Vet for vaccinations. Be sure he has had his stool tested for intestinal parasites and has been dewormed a few times. Parasites are a huge issues in all puppies. Good luck!

Best puppy food for underweight dog: Pro Plan, Royal Canin, Hills?

Hello, any of these diets could be recommended by your veterinarian. If you feed the recommended doses as detailed on the bags then this should be sufficient for a puppy, however, in an older dog this may be too rich for her. If your veterinarian is recommending that she continues to eat a puppy food, then my choice would be a Royal Canin diet. Otherwise, you can feed a supplemented or bigger portion adult diet. What healthy, affordable dog food helps my dog gain weight fast?

Iams is a great brand of food, and it's not as expensive as Hill's. I also like Purina ProPlan, and Purina One. All of these are healthy, and cheaper than Hill's. I recommend trying Layla on one of those foods. You will have to transition her slowly to prevent GI upset. Mix together the new and old food, and over the course of two weeks, gradually increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of old food until she is eating the new food only. What should I feed a puppy recovering from parvovirus at home?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Orioz! Once Orioz has stopped vomiting, gently start syringe feeding a well balance canned puppy food (purina proplan puppy, royal canin, Hills, etc). Syringe small amounts several times per day. Add water to the canned food to make it more liquidy so it can pass through the syringe. Skip a feeding if he vomits. Continue syringe feeding until he starts to eat on his own.
