What healthy, affordable dog food helps my dog gain weight fast?

I would recommend having her body condition score figured out first to determine if she is indeed underweight. If there are loose stools then it's best to check her stools for intestinal parasites through your vet. If her stools are normal, then she may be going through a transient period of not gaining proper weight due to a previous illness. Increasing her current food amount can help. You can also try mixing in a high calorie puppy food for a few weeks. I wouldn't suggest this unless she is otherwise healthy and nothing else seems to help, because a consistent high calorie diet can do more harm (i.e. Pancreatitis) than good in some cases. You should definitely feed a puppy food. Purina Pro Plan and Iams are good foods that are a little less expensive. If your puppy still isn't gaining weight you should see a vet - parasites, food sensitivities or pancreatic diseases may be keeping him from gaining weight.

Look at the packages for information on the calories. You will want one with higher calories. Try to stick to the better quality foods. Iams, Purina One, Eukanuba and Nutro are all moderately priced and are good diets. Ask about a membership or purchase punch card which some pet stores may have to help save costs. If you can’t increase the volume of food the pups will eat, try to increase the calorie content. Also making sure you feed a high quality food will ensure that the pups absorb the nutrients appropriately. I like Royal Canin and Purina Pro Plan. Hello, any of these diets could be recommended by your veterinarian. If you feed the recommended doses as detailed on the bags then this should be sufficient for a puppy, however, in an older dog this may be too rich for her. If your veterinarian is recommending that she continues to eat a puppy food, then my choice would be a Royal Canin diet. Otherwise, you can feed a supplemented or bigger portion adult diet. Great question! You want a high quality food, and typically you won't find those at a supermarket. Those are lower quality foods made from poorer ingredients, which is why they are cheaper. Iams and Purina ProPlan are both high quality foods that are cheaper than Hill's Science diet. I recommend feeding Reno a puppy formulated food from one of those two brands. I hope this helps :-)
