Why is my puppy weak in rear legs and lethargic after shots?

Hello, sorry to hear about Rocky. Given he had 5 injections, his bum and legs may be a little sore and he is unwilling to move. However, if he is moving, but dragging his rear legs, then I would have him evaluated by your veterinarian immediately as this could be associated with a severe injury. Alternatively, other causes may include a heavy burden of fleas infection, tick bite, or an immune mediated effect from all of his vaccines. While you can see some pain after receiving vaccines, it should easy in 24-48 hours. Rest Simba. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to potty on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. Do not feel the area where he got the shots. You can apply a cold compress gently to that area to see if it helps. If he is still this way in the morning, have him seen by a vet.

Not entirely normal but sometimes pain at the injection site can occur. Is he limping on the leg the vaccine was given in? If not, then no. If yes, then maybe. Do you feel anything at the site of injection? Best plan is to call your vet so they can make a note in his record that this occurred and discuss with you if pain medication is needed. If the limp is in a different leg then something else is likely causing the limp which require an exam with your vet. Sometimes vaccines can cause dogs to feel a bit groggy, a bit like a person getting their inoculations. However it doesn't tend to be that pronounced. Dogs are very sensitive to new environments and stress so so wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it is down to the changes occurring. Whilst he is eating and drinking normally I wouldn't worry too much. However if he deteriorates or dies not return to his usual self in a few days it would be best to get him examined.

I'm so sorry that Zeke is painful after his vaccination. Unfortunately, pain at the injection site is a possible side effect of vaccinations and some small dogs tend to become achy and painful all over. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian. There are some prescription pain medications that can be very helpful in decreasing pain and inflammation associated with vaccination. I will typically use Metacam which works very well. You may also ask your veterinarian if Zeke should have pain medication in the future before his vaccinations, so he does not have this problem again. Good luck! Vaccines can occasionally cause mild lethargy, a slight fever, or pain at the site of the vaccine. If Bear's booster vaccine was given near his backside it is possible that the pain is making him not want to walk and cautious about his back end. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian in the morning - even if Bear seems much better they can note this possible vaccine reaction in his record and potentially prescribe pain medication for him. If he is having difficulty walking, vomits, seems extremely lethargic or develops facial swelling or hives you should see a veterinarian right away as these could be signs of a more serious reaction.
