My puppy has watery diarrhea for 6 days after daycare. Vet or rice?

At this point, I don’t think it’s the soup. Common causes of persistent diarrhea in a puppy would be intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral infection, continued dietary indiscretion (meaning he keeps eating things he shouldn’t), or, less commonly, a food sensitivity to his current puppy food. Since this has lasted longer than 24 hours, I would recommend taking Sunny to the vet for evaluation. They can check a stool sample for parasites and evaluate his vaccination history to make sure there weren’t any gaps, then proceed with a recommended treatment.

If Chaco is otherwise still active, playful, eating, drinking, and has not been vomiting, I think it is ok to just keep an eye on him for a couple more days. Offer a bland diet (such as plain cooked chicken and white rice) and monitor his appetite and activity level. If he hasn't been dewormed in the past 4 weeks, that would also be advisable. If his stools are not looking more normal in a few days, or if at any point he starts vomiting, acting like he doesn't feel good, or the stool becomes bloody, take him to your vet. I recommend giving Chico a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice. If he becomes lethargic, there is blood or he isn't eating then I recommend taking Chico to a veterinarian. Also if the diarrhea isn't resolving after another day I would consider taking him to a veterinarian. Do you mean really runny poop? If he has watery diarrhea, I would strongly recommend to have a vet look at him. Being so young and small, he could easily get dehydrated despite drinking water. Diarrhea can be from several things like parasites, a change in diet, viral infections like parvo, toxins and much more. You can try to feed him some plain boiled boneless skinless chicken and white rice to see if this settles his tummy. If he isn’t improving, I would have your vet take a look at him. Poor pup! No, it's not normal for her to have diarrhea, especially if it's been going on for a week now. I would be concerned that she may have an intestinal parasite of some kind, or possibly an infection causing the diarrhea. I would recommend taking her to the vet today if you can for an exam - he/she can do a fecal exam to check for parasites or other problems, and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat the diarrhea depending on what is found.

Poor Morticia! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease. If the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. I hope Morticia starts feeling better quickly! She will likely need fecal testing and a medication to clear it up. As you mentioned, she could have acquired a parasite. She also could have ingested something that upset her stomach either on your walk, a scrap of human food or a new dog treat. When this occurs and diarrhea results, a secondary bacterial overgrowth can occur. This perpetuates the diarrhea and an antibiotic is usually necessary. If the testing does reveal a cause and the diarrhea recurs after treatment, then I would consider a diet change. In the meantime, offer her plenty of water so that she does not become dehydrated.
