My 6-week-old puppy is vomiting, lethargic, and crying. What's wrong?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bear! He is probably uncomfortable if he keeps getting up and rearranging himself. With the vomiting it makes me think his belly hurts and he is nauseous and that is why he can't rest comfortably or eat. Possible causes of vomiting, not eating and an uncomfortable belly are: pancreatitis, a foreign body that is stuck, inflammation of the stomach or intestines from viral or bacterial infections or from eating something that doesn't agree with him. I recommend that you take Bear to your Vet as soon as you can. Based on their physical exam they may want to do blood work and X-rays of his belly. Based on the results they will know how best to get him better! I hope this helps and good luck!

Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear Texas is not feeling very well. Vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, and decreased appetite are very concerning signs and have many causes behind them. Infectious causes, internal organ dysfunction, or a foreign body or GI obstruction could be at play. Texas is really better off in the care of a veterinarian today as a veterinary hospital will be able to diagnose and treat Texas effectively and give him the proper care he needs. If a vet isn't an option, there are not a lot of home treatments for these symptoms. Try and keep Texas hydrated to offering water to him frequently and offering him unflavored pedialyte in his water may help as well as feeding him a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. Vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy are quite concerning in any dog, especially puppies because of the diseases they can get such as parvovirus. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. They would be able to check for this disease as well as checking for other possibilities such as intestinal worms or other infections. The sooner these diseases are diagnosed the better the outcome tends to be. At the very least, Gus can be started on anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications and his hydration status can be checked. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bagel (GREAT name for a beagle!)! Since he is just 6 weeks old it is best to have a Vet take a look at him. When they are this young I worry about dehydration and low blood sugar. They can also deteriorate quickly. Causes of vomiting are: viral infections like parvovirus, intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), foreign body (something is stuck), food allergy or sensitivity. Your Vet may want you to bring a stool sample so they can check it for parasites, they may want to test for parvovirus and take X-rays of his belly. It is recommended to take LIttle Bear to the veterinarian to be evaluated. There are many different causes of vomiting. He may have a gastrointestinal upset, Pancreatitis, Foreign Body, etc. Your veterinarian will be able to do a complete physical examination and determine if any and what diagnostics are needed. I'm really sorry that Wylie is not feeling well. At this stage I really think you need to get him to a vet for an exam and treatment. There is only so much you can do at home - obviously he is not responding and is actually worse after 3 days. The best advice is to get him to a vet as soon as possible. In a young dogs (like less than a year old) that are vomiting, not eating, lethargic is often due to an intestinal obstruction; I would be very worried about that. Please get him to a vet ASAP.

The most likely diagnosis for a puppy with Jack Jack's symptoms is parvo virus. I suggest you get him to a vet as soon as possible for an exam and parvo test. This is serious and life-threatening. Do not try to continue to treat him at home. He may not have parvo as there are other things that can, of course, cause his symptoms but regardless of what is ailing him he is very sick and needs veterinary intervention.
