My puppy started vaccines at 8 weeks. 3 or 4 boosters needed?

Puppies need a series of DA2PP (also called DHPP, combo boosters or Distemper/Parvo) vaccinations every 2-4 weeks until they reach at least 16 weeks of age (but up to 18-20 weeks in some cases). Lepto is an optional vaccination that does need to be boostered once. Bordatella is an optional vaccination as well. What your veterinarian is recommending appears to be the appropriate boosters of the vaccines that Toffee previously received. You're right that the vaccines are typically started at six weeks and the booster vaccines are given every 2- 4 weeks until they are 16- 20 weeks of age. The frequency of the the boosters depend on their risk. It's best to have a vet evaluate him in the next few days. When you are discussing vaccinations I am assuming you are referring to the distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza combination vaccine (DAPP). If Theodore is only about 6 weeks old he will need at least 3-4 more DAPP vaccines spaced approximately one month apart to be fully protected against distemper. Because Theodore will be at risk until he receives all of his distemper booster shots it is best to minimize his risk by not taking him to places where sick dogs may have been. So avoiding dog parks, pet stores, and kennels is a good idea. I would recommend starting veterinary visits for Theodore around 8 weeks of age so he can be examined and another DAPP vaccine can be given. Please remember to bring a fecal sample with you to the vet visit so he can be checked for intestinal parasites. After that, booster is given once a year. Finally, rabies is vaccinated depending on the current legal requirements.
