My puppy has a UTI. Why is he still peeing inside and not eating?

Poor Kiwi! Keep an eye on her for now, offer her canned food with water added to flush her bladder in case she has another uti. If she is still acting this way in the morning, I'd be concerned and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

If that was the cause then she should start getting better in the next day or so. If no improvement, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck! As far as the change in urination, I would certainly have your vet evaluate a urine sample to evaluate for a UTI. It will make housetraining much more difficult (or impossible) if there is something medical going on. So, that could certainly be a reason for the backsliding with his training. You may also check a fecal sample. One of my dogs started pooping in the house at 6 months of age, and we found an intestinal parasite was to blame. If there isn't anything medical going on, then it's time to work on housetaining. It is common that we see a little backslide in housetraining around 6 months of age because as owners we think they are doing well, so we get a little more slack in our training. I recommend going back to square one. Keep Max in a kennel or on a leash in the house so he is under very direct supervision. Take him outside immediately after eating or playing. Go outside with him and reward him for going outside. The longer Max goes in the house, the harder it will be to housetrain him, so put in the time and effort now. I hope that was helpful. I'm so sorry to hear that all of this is going on with Hatton. Firstly, it can take several days for the antibiotics he is on to clear up the infection. You may not see improvements in his UTI until 3-5 days after starting the medication. Additionally, antibiotics need to be given for a minimum of 2 weeks to clear up a simple infection, but some infections take 4-6 weeks of treatment. Hatton may also have bladder stones. If this has not been ruled out you may consider having X-rays to looks for stones. The antibiotics may be giving Hatton an upset stomach as well and this could be why he is reluctant to eat. You may want to consider asking your vet to prescribe him some nausea medication and see if that gets him eating again. Secondly, if you or your vet is concerned about the spread of mast cell tumors throughout the body I would consider doing chest X-rays and an abdominal ultrasound. Hi. I am sorry Thor has a UTI and had an infection. I am glad he is responding better to the next round of meds. His appetite and attitude can be affected by the antibitoics. It can be very difficult to give oral medications. A helpful strategy for administering medication to pets is using foods that are highly appealing. things like butter, peanut butter, cream cheese, deli meats (e.g., salami, liverwurst), and spreadable cheese or cheese in a can will help to hide medications. Commercial treats called pill pocets can be molded around a pill are available in a variety of flavors and are even formulated for pets with food allergies. It is important to disguise the pill in a small amount of tempting food so it will not be too bulky and require chewing. In many instances, even using delectable treats does not guarantee success. Keep trying. Another ruse that is particularly helpful when it comes to food-motivated pets is to offer a primer treat, then the disguised pill followed by a “chaser” treat. Making a fuss to build excitement over the impending treat is helpful in assuring the hidden pill will be ingested. I would not say this is serious per say, but UTI can cause problems untreated. If there is still blood, I recommend having your veterinarian take an x-ray of the bladder to make sure there are no stones in the bladder.

If the antibiotics didn't make much difference, I'd be suspicious of puppy vaginitis, which is a relatively common inflammatory condition that can lead to accidents and sometimes make them more susceptible to urinary infections. It generally resolves with age. I would also check for a stricture (this may require sedation as they don't love vaginal palpation...). For now, since your vet hasn't been able to check a urinalysis, that would be the first priority. See if you can get a sample- sneak a small container under her when she squats. If you have to hold onto the sample a few hours before dropping it at your vet, stick it in the fridge, but the fresher the better. If you're having no luck, your vet can collect a sterile sample via cystocentesis. Hope this helps.

Hello, sorry to hear about Arki. This could be the case and it may take him a day or so to resume his appetite. However, if Arki is not able to urinate, has gone greater than 4-6 hours with urinating, is making frequent visits to the litter box and is unable to produce urine, or is sitting in the litter box and vocalizing then he should be evaluated immediately as these are signs he may be obstructed and would require emergency veterinary attention. If he is obstructed, then Arki is unlikely to want to eat anything as this is painful condition. If he is urinating, then as his UTI begins to clear, he will likely resume his normal appetite.
