New puppy touched animal poop. Should I worry about him getting sick?

It would be best to take him out when the full set of vaccines is given, but if it is a small closed garden and he/she is not going to get in touch with other animals, that is generally fine and the risk of possible infection is very low.

Vaccines in puppies should be given every 3-4 weeks starting at 8 weeks of age. So he can be boostered at 11-12 weeks (looks like he has about a week to go). The chances of him getting something from the unvaccinated dog's owner is pretty minimal but there is always a slight chance. I personally would not be too worried about it but there are a couple things you could do to minimize risk. You could just kindly ask her to wash her hands before petting. The other option is that you don't have to let her pet him at all. You can always say you are busy training him and you would prefer that no one pets him for now if you want to avoid a conflict..... In theory, she has not mount a response to her vaccines yet so she can still get infected with like parvovirus if those feces were infected with parvovirus. However, that is very unlikely so I would not worry about that too much as the chance of that is very small. Good luck and have a great day! She is likely going to be just fine.

You can get started right away! Consistency is the key to house training, so be sure to take Emmitt outside often - after eating, napping, playing, or at least every 2-3 hours. Reward appropriate potty behavior with praise and a small treat. If you catch him in the act of eliminating in the house, say "no" and take him straight outside. If you find an accident around the house, there is no need to scold or punish him. The main concern at this point is that Emmitt is not fully vaccinated against some highly contagious viruses, such as parvovirus. Until he has received his full distemper/parvovirus vaccine series, keep him away from other dogs. This includes areas where other dogs may have previously eliminated, such as parks or around your neighborhood. Keep Emmitt confined to your backyard until his vaccine series is complete.

Luckily the parvoviris part of the vaccinations works well from the first dose. I know you are really worried but I think little Charlie will be absoloutely fine. Keep a close eye on him and if you notice any loose faeces go to the vet at this point. Parvo thankfully is quite rare nowadays because so many pets are vaccinated.

They get most of the contagious disease form direct contact with a sick dog or by eating infected stool. Just walking your dog doesn't necessarily put them at risk. Keep up with his DHPP vaccine every 3-4 weeks until he has had two past 12 weeks of age. Signs to look out for are: vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, lethargy. I wish you the best
