My puppy's tooth is yellow/brown. Is it damaged from chewing?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Frankenstein. The majority of the time when a tooth becomes discolored, it is has sustained some sort of trauma. This can be from chewing on a hard toy, rock, bone or even a crate. The discoloration typically means that the tooth is dying. It likely will not resolve on its own. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He will likely need to go under anesthesia to have dental x-rays taken to assess the tooth. This can guide treatment options. It is good that he is still eating and drinking normally. He could still be experiencing some pain from the tooth though. I hope this information helps!

This may or may not have compromised the health of the tooth. I would recommend a dental cleaning to remove any tartar and also to get x-rays done of that particular tooth to see if there is any evidence the tooth is broken below the gingiva or if there is disease of the pulp chamber of the tooth. Many dogs have no complications from such an injury and extraction is complicated with a risk of fracture and non healing wounds. I would recommend close monitoring and xray of the tooth to assess for any bone loss around the tooth in 6-12months

I would have Mila seen by a vet for this tooth. If it's bleeding, then she may be suffering from severe gingivitis, or she could have damaged her tooth leading to the bleeding. This tooth should be examined and cleaned under sedation, which the vet can perform. I would have Mila seen by a vet tomorrow.

That is Finn’s baby tooth. The discoloration generally indicates an injury to the tooth but it could indicate an abscess. Finn will not lose this toother for another 4-8 weeks. I recommend to call your veterinarian since they are most familiar with Finn. They may recommend an exam or may tell you to monitor at home. Your doctor will make the call. I hope this helps.

Hello, and thank you for your question. I would recommend getting Archi seen by a vet within the next few days, to assess the severity of the broken tooth. If the fracture is deep enough to expose the nerve, it can cause pain and infection, and can affect eruption of the adult tooth. In this case, they may recommend extraction of the tooth. If the fracture is shallow, the vet may just recommend monitoring it until it falls out (usually by 6 months of age). In the meantime, offer Archi the option of softer food (canned food, watered down dry food) in case the broken tooth is causing him pain. Monitor for any discolouration of the tooth which would warrant immediate attention by a vet. I hope this helps, and that Archi does okay!
