Why did my puppy throw up for the first time? What should I do?

Hello, sorry to hear about Penny. It sounds like she may have intermittent inflammation of her colon (colitis). This could be associated with parasites in puppies this young. Other causes could include viruses such as parvo. Finally, any dietary indiscretion (getting into something they shouldn't have) could lead to this as well. I recommend that Penny is evaluated by her veterinarian to check her stools for any worms. Additionally, she may be fed a bland diet for the next 5 days, which may be composed of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve clinical signs, then she should be checked by her veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor Benji! If he's only vomited once or twice, it is best to keep an eye on him. You can also offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle any minor GI upset. Small breeds are more prone to issues such as hypoglycemia, so making sure Benji is fed several smaller meals throughout the day instead of larger ones may help, and may also decrease vomiting so he isn't eating too much all in one meal. If he continues to vomit, or shows other signs of illness in addition to it, a vet visit is best to rule out other issues such as illnesses, parasites, foreign body ingestion, etc that can also cause vomiting.

If Toby has only thrown up 1 maybe 2 times but is still eating,drinking and playing normally I would continue to monitor his behavior . If at anytime he starts vomiting more, acting lethargic, having diarrhea or not eating I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible. It is possible that Toby ate something he should not or even had a mild upset stomach that caused him to get sick. IF he is acting normally but continues to occasionally vomit I would recommend switching his dog food because sometimes vomiting can be secondary to a food allergy. I hope that helps

I am very sorry to hear that Maggie is experiencing these problems, There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including pancreatistis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison, or even an gastrointestinal obstruction. It is also possible that Maggie is simply eating too much too fast. If the episodes continue over a 48 hour period, Maggie seems dull or depressed, in pain, ha sprifuse diarrhoea or vomiting, I would take her straight tot wh vet. Your vet will be able to perform a physical exam and run diagnostic tests such as bloodwork to determine the cause of Maggie's vomiting. In the meantime you can continue to monuitir her at home. Rest her stomach for a few hours. Then try smaller meals three times a day. Try a bland diet of boiled chicken breast and white rice for a few days and provide plenty of fresh water. If Jordy continues to vomit, starts dry heaving, or is extremely lethargic, I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic tonight or first thing in the morning. If he is normal the rest of the night, give him a half his normal breakfast and monitor for more vomiting. If he does continue to vomit, he'll need to go to vet. Common causes of vomiting in puppies include foreign bodies, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, some metabolic disorders, and mild gastroenteritis if unknown origin. If he does end up needing to go to the vet, they will likely take some x-rays and maybe do a baseline blood work, and then treat him symptomatically if they are do not find a specific. It is not that unusual for a puppy to be sick, especially if he has been running around and eaten recently. As long as the pup seems in goid form I wouldnt worry too much. However if he seems dull or continues to vomit then a trip to the vet would be wise.

I would believe the most likely cause in a lung dog like Tye is gastrointestinal worms or a gastrointestinal infection. Because you have only noticed these signs over the course of a few days I would continue to monitor Tye at home. Here is what you can do for him over the next 24 hours; Rest Tye’s gastrointestinal tract by holding back food for a few hours. Then you can continue with a bland and easily digested food of the boiled chicken breast and white rice diet and provide plenty of fresh water. This will tempt him to eat while also being healthy for gut recovery. You can also purchase Hill’s I/D from a veterinarian, which is a premade food which will have the same effect. I also find that boiled, mashed skinless sweet potato is helpful for diarrhoea if he is experiencing any of that. In the longer term I would also advise switching his dog food brand, in case he is not doing well because of his current food.
