My puppy has a sudden rash on her stomach. What should I do?

That looks quite uncomfortable. I'm surprised that she isn't super itchy. I don't see any obvious causes in the picture - such areas that make me suspicious of a bacterial or yeast infection. My top guesses be allergies (flea, food, environment, or even a contact allergy such as being allergic to your laundry detergent), with skin parasites or a superficial infection definitely possible. Since it's such a large area, it's going to be hard to apply an ointment - if you have a medicated bath for another dog (one that is for superficial infections) that may help. Wiping the area with witch hazel could calm in down. A mild (1%) hydrocortisone cream could also calm down the area. I would definitely recommend getting her to the vet as soon as possible. They are likely to need to do an exam saying she's in good health before she can be added to the insurance, and she's not going to qualify until her skin is better.

It sounds like Georgia is having an allergic reaction. You should be giving her the antihistamine every 8 hours and try washing the affected area with an antibacterial hand soap (rinse it well). You can continue to apply to anti-itch cream twice daily (but make sure she is not licking it!), so make her wear an elizabethan collar if you need to. Try this treatment for 3-5 days. If it is not improving or if it is getting worse, then take her in to see her vet. The doctor has stronger medications that are sometimes needed for allergic reactions. I hope this helps!

Hi there, Yes, it does sound like Ronald is having an allergic reaction to the grass. Sometimes bathing with an aloe/oatmeal shampoo can help alleviate what's going on and decrease the rash, but often dogs need a small dose of steroid to stop their body from having such a reaction. At her age I would be concerned she has mange (scabies) due to the itching and locations. It is hard to find and actually mite on them but very easy to treat just to be safe. Some puppies get a puppy pyoderma which is little pustules and bumps on their bellies. Most out grow this but few need antibiotics to help when it occurs. She is young to have allergies but it is not impossible. I would have your vet recheck the skin for mange and do weekly baths to help

You will need to put an e-collar on your dog , so she does not scratch herself bloody. Your dog could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing the itch. take your dog to a veterinarian or Pet ER for a skin exam. lease take your dog to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications, possibly give an injection to stop the itching.

It might be a very mild allergic reaction, at this point i do not think it requires treatment. if it gets worse or if she is very itchy then you will have to take her to the vet in order to get some allergy meds.

Hi and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Harley Quinn looks as if she may be pretty uncomfortable-there are a few possible causes of her irritation. A rash or irritation can come from a contact dermatitis (ie contact with the grass, something the grass was treated with, etc), inhaled allergens (ie seasonal allergies), food allergies (ie protein source in food-chicken or beef usually) or sometimes even flea allergies (although usually those are seen on the back of the neck and rump region). Unfortunately there are not many over the counter options, although you can start with an oatmeal based shampoo to remove any contact allergens from her abdomen (although I would bathe her entire body). Since her rash appears to be widespread on her abdomen I would recommend a physical exam by a veterinarian to start treatment and give her some relief. Good luck with Harley!
