Why is my puppy suckling siblings' privates & how to stop it?

You may have to put little clothes on them so they cannot suck each other. If mama does not have mastitis anymore, you could try giving them back to her so they can suckle her. She may even start to lactate again. (And make sure you monitor her well so she does not get mastitis again) Unfortunately puppies need the suckling for comfort so they will look for something warm to suckle whenever they can.

You can try distracting him or diverting his attention when he does it but this is just a relic of puppyhood that is left over. Most dogs will eventually stop this. This is usually not a hunger-driven activity in a 10 week old kitten. It can indicate that the kitten was weaned or taken away from its mother too early. I would definitely continue to prevent this behavior, as it can continue into adulthood and could cause problems like an infection in the mammary gland of your dog. You may have your dog wear a shirt to cover the nipples, or keep them separated unless you can monitor them. It may be that your dog is just fascinated with the nipples hanging down, or some dogs especially ones that were weaned young may still have that nursing instinct. Unfortunately you don't want them to nurse on her because it could cause trauma/infection. I would consider getting a dog shirt for her to try to help cover up the nipples and discourage your staffy from this behavior.

This sounds somewhat unusual. If the skin is raw where the mother has been licking, then the pups may need to be separated from her until it has a chance to heal. You can still allow them to nurse under supervision several times a day, or you may need to bottle feed them if she won't leave them alone while they nurse. I would recommend having a vet take a look at the puppies to make sure that taking them away from mom is necessary, and they may also need antibiotics depending on how raw the skin is.

Missy engaging in nipple sucking could be a behavioral change, but it could also be due to underlying discomfort associated with that nipple/mammary gland. Scheduling a visit with Missy's veterinarian would be beneficial to get a good palpation of the mammary glands associated with the nipples she is sucking to make sure there are no masses palpable. If she receives a clean bill of health, then it could be a behavioral change she is exhibiting.

What cute kitties! I would discourage this behavior by removing the kitten each time this occurs and trying to distract him with something else- a fun toy or treat. Also giving him some time alone so he develops some independent from his sibling can be helpful. A feliway pheromone diffuser may also be helpful if the suckling is a nervous response. You can also put a little shirt/sweater on the kitten getting suckled to make it tougher for the suckler to get to him!
