Pacer got his second round of shots this morning and he is very sleepy, sore (cries in pain when I touch his shoulders where the medication was administered) and little appetite. Is this a normal side effect after distemper shots?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Possible side effects after vaccines include pain at the injection site, lethargy, inappetence and general discomfort. This should subside within 1-2 days. If it does not improve or it worsens, have Logan evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, Logan will likely start feeling better shortly. Good luck and best wishes!

Hello, thank you for your question about Chester.
I suspect that the symptoms that you are noticing are secondary to mild pain/inflammation at the injection site, which is a fairly common side effect after vaccination. This should go away within the next 24-48 hours. Additional side effects could include mild lethargy.
More serious signs of a vaccine reaction can include facial swelling, hives, vomiting, diarrhea, or collapse. If Chester develops any of these symptoms I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately.
Hope this helps, good luck!
