9-week puppies have soft tan poop. Should I feed dry food twice daily?

Hello, congratulations on your puppies. In general they can have waxing and waning stool consistencies when they are this young. Most common causes for stool changes in puppies include parasites, dietary indiscretions, or changes in their GI tracts as they develop. Currently they are too young to deworm, however, as long as they are continuing to eat then you may keep monitoring them for any lethargy, worsening soft stools or diarrhea, or parasites in their feces. If you note any of these then contact your veterinarian to have them evaluated sooner. Otherwise, continue to allow them to nurse and begin to offer wet puppy food at 4-6 weeks of age. It's probably just the transition from soft to dry. Keep feeding the soft food and offer the dry food as treats until he gets used to it. Sometimes it takes a while for them to learn to chew hard food. You can also try leaving a little dry in a dish when he's hungry and soaking a small amount of dry until it's mushy to see if he'll start eating it if is softer. As he grows he will want dry food, he's still young. He probably did pass out the worms but will need another deworming in two to three weeks. Aw, what a cutie. 6 weeks old is pretty young to be away from his mama. These guys are often fed by their mom until closer to 8 weeks. A good quality puppy food, probably canned or kibble soaked in warm water will be necessary. At this age he probable won’t eat dry kibble. It is best if you feed the same thing the breeder fed in the beginning. This will help with the soft stool and keep him from diarrhea. Once he eats that well, you can transition. I would choose a high quality large breed puppy food for the first year. I like Merrick, if your budget allows. If you need a grocery store available food, try Purina One. If his stool is really soft, he needs to have a fecal check with your vet as he may need deworming.

If it ever becomes consistent diarrhea, have her evaluated by a veterinarian before her scheduled appointment. Keep in mind that it may be best to continue the formula until she is 6 weeks old. They make canine probiotics you can add to his diet but you may need to change to sensitive stomach formula food temporarily until it gets better. you can also deworm him to make sure that is not a contributing factor. If it continues or you notice blood, vomiting or a decreasing appetite, then he should be checked to see what is causing it

Soft poops in dogs can be caused by intestinal worms, which are common in puppies. I would take take Tyson into the vet along with a fecal sample. The vet can confirm he does have worms and can give him a deworming treatment such as Drontal. I would take him into the vet either today or this weekend. As for the beef mince, it's not needed in his diet. Royal Canin is an excellent food, and it will provide all the nutrients he needs to grow and be healthy. Adding the mince is adding extra calories he doesn't need, it's also fatty and too fatty foods can lead to pancreatitis. I would avoid giving that to him. As an occasional treat, you can give him some boiled white meat chicken (no bones). Good luck, I hope this helps!

White discoloration of the stools indicates that your pet is not getting enough water intake. I would recommend either adding in canned wet food to Sal's diet or getting a pet water fountain to encourage more water intake. Hopefully this takes care of the issue. If not, then a rechk at your vet is recommended to do some baseline bloodwork and make sure all his values are normal. He is an older puppy now, so pooping twice daily is normal at this age. I would howevere make sure you put up all brushes and keep the house free of things he can ingest that can potentially cause a blockage. I hope that Sal does well moving forward.
