My puppy is smaller than siblings. Will he grow to full adult size?

Grown up size of a doog depends on genetics and nutrition. You can help your dog grow to his full potential by feeding him a good quality complete puppy food for large dogs. Some dogs will stay on the smaller side within the breed sprectrum. This does not take away from them. You do not want to make your dog grow taller faster than nature wants him to grow, as you make him prone to bone problems. Your dog will still grow for about another year to 18 months. Be patient.

At 4 months and weighing only 6 lbs, I would guess (without seeing a picture of your dog0 that he won't be over 15 pounds. I wish you the best!

At this weight your puppy will have an approximate adult weight of about 54lbs. This would be relatively small. The average weight of adult German Shepherds by gender are: Males: 66 – 88 pounds (30 – 40 kg) Females: 48 – 70 pounds (22 – 32 kg). Your GSD may be a smaller type, or it may not be growing like it should. I suggest you take Mike to a vet for a wellness exam assessing his growth rate. Make sure you feed good quality puppy food for large dogs and his age bracket to ensure optimum growth.

Hello. You have beautiful puppies & have done a great job raising them. If your veterinarian detected no abnormalities in the smaller puppy that concerned him, like a heart murmur or enlarged liver on general palpation, then I would not be concerned at all. Many times a smaller sibling will grow to eventually catch up to or surpass the larger one. I have definitely seen this in the larger breeds such as shepherds & malamutes. But given that nutrition has been the same to both puppies, it may just be a normal genetic difference in the size disparity. Do not worry. As long as you continue him on a good balanced diet and you continue the good job you are doing, he is likely going to be ok and be back to his normal expected growth. Chico is such a handsome boy! He looks like a Pitbull and males can be around 35-60 pounds when fully grown. He still has a bit of growing to do, and he may be mixed with another breed of dog leading to his smaller size. Plus he is the runt, so they do tend to be smaller. I hope this helps!

This is usually possible considering the standard for the breed and the current size. Usually the prevision is more reliable when they are a bit older but an experienced vet can certainly give you a rough idea.
