My 6-month German Shepherd puppy is small. Is he growing right?

The question you are asking is a little unclear. I think you are trying to ask what the average adult size of a German Shepherd is at a particular age. An adult female GSD should reach anywhere from 50-85 pounds depending on breeding lines. Complete growth in large breed dogs is not usually reached until at least 18 months of age, though the majority of their growth has stopped by on year. Grown up size of a doog depends on genetics and nutrition. You can help your dog grow to his full potential by feeding him a good quality complete puppy food for large dogs. Some dogs will stay on the smaller side within the breed sprectrum. This does not take away from them. You do not want to make your dog grow taller faster than nature wants him to grow, as you make him prone to bone problems. Your dog will still grow for about another year to 18 months. Be patient.

He does appear a bit light for the breed. Some German Shepherds stay small. However, I suggest you have him examined by your veterinarian who can then tell you whether he is too thin, or normal for his size (he is not fully grown yet), needs more muscling or needs better food for development. THis is only possible with a hands-on exam.

If Shera is only 4kg at this age, I would suspect something is preventing him from gaining weight. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have him checked for intestinal parasites and treated for parasites. He may have a congenital disease such as a liver shunt or some other systemic disease going on that needs to be treated. The sooner he is seen the better. Tyson looks fine weight-wise for his age, although he is not the best quality German Shepherd Dog, which is why his head is so narrow and he is fine-boned and small. There is a good likelhood that he may not be a purebred GSD also. As for his greeting people, this is exactly what you want in your dog. I have done protection training with GSDs for 26 years, and one of the most important things potential trainees are tested for is their ability to tell threat from non-threat. The average person on the street is not a threat to you, so your dog should act exactly like a Labrador towards him. If someone were to attack you, it would be a good bet that you would see the reaction you are looking for. A dog who is mean all the time is a danger to his owner as well as others, and a lawsuit waiting to happen as well.

I don't think there is an actually chart but German shepherds can range anywhere from 65-100 pounds depending on their genetics. I rarely see them over 100 pounds and be an ideal weight. Since Soska is 10 months and around 55 pounds, I estimate that she will be around 70 pounds at an ideal weight when she is full grown. You want to make sure you see a "waist" when you look at her from above and from the side. You want to be able to easily feel her ribs and hip bones but not see them from a distance. i hope this helps!
