Why is my puppy's poop suddenly slimy after eating rice and chicken?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 24 days old | 45 lbs

My puppy is having boiled rice chicken since yesterday. And this morning her poop looks weird( slimy in texture) Is this okay?

Yes, I would not worry too much. If you have been feeding chicken and rice to help Luna’s tummy settle, continue for another couple of days and then gradually reintroduce her food gradually. Hope this helps ! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Luna didn't want to eat her usual food, but you were smart to feed her something bland like boiled chicken and rice. Her feces may appear different just as a result of the diet change, but it does not look concerning to me. It is perfectly OK to feed Luna this bland diet for a few days, but this is not a balanced diet that can be continued long term. I would recommend transitioning her back to her usual kibble diet over the next few days. You can try mixing some of her kibble into the boiled chicken and rice and increase the ratio of kibble to chicken and rice until she is back to eating 100% of her kibble. It is especially important that puppies eat a diet formulated for growth, as these help to ensure they get the appropriate nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy. I hope this is helpful!

Why is my dog producing less stool on a chicken and rice diet?

Chicken and rice is easy on the GI tract and highly digestible, so you'll see less stool. Once you start feeding dog food regularly, you should see an increase in stool production. The lip licking may be a symptom of nausea or a stress. Survey the area in and around the home for anything they could be getting into. This includes trash cans, animal feed, Animal feces or vegetation.

Why is my puppy's stool loose after switching from rice and chicken?

Yes, I suggest you get him a probiotic to add to the food. Use the probiotic with the chicken and rice (no puppy food) for about 4 days and then go back to trying to transition him back to the puppy food. I like this probiotic. I think it is the best. Feed one packet on the food daily. My dog has bloody diarrhea with fatty substance. Should I worry?

Hello. This all depends on how Luna is feeling & doing otherwise. If she is eating & drinking & acting normal, you can try just fasting her for the next 8-12 hours, & then feeding her a bland diet consisting of cooked white meat chicken & plain boiled whole grain rice ( not instant or minute rice ). Feed her a couple of teaspoons every few hours & see how she does. If the diarrhea should worsen, contain more blood, or Luna starts vomiting, please see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Why is my 7-week puppy's poop watery and green after new food?

I would recommend bringing Dakota to a veterinarian. Typically, I would recommend boiled chicken and white rice but due to her age I would recommend having a veterinarian make sure there are no intestinal parasites and that the diarrhea is just from the stress and diet change.
