My 5-week-old puppy is shaking and foaming. Is it a seizure?

From what your are describing it seems to be a seizure and I would recommend to have Pommerian checked by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Make sure she didn't ingest anything she shouldn't have (i.e. human medication, herbicide, detergents,...), if you find something suspicious bring it with you so the vet can check it. If she isn't vaccinated, rabies is also a major concern especially for your health so please be careful and and take her straight to your vet.

If you feel that Dexter may have had a seizure last night, I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian at their next available appointment. There are many causes of seizures including low blood sugar, liver disease such as a shunt, kidney disease, and disease within the cranium or cerebrospinal fluid. Your veterinarian can perform an exam on Dexter and best localize the problem. He/she may recommend bloodwork to help understand what may have happened to Dexter. I hope this is helpful!

Hello, sorry to hear about Roxy. I would recommend having her evaluated if her clinical sings persist, especially if she is a dog that likes to chew toys, sticks, or get into the trash. Our biggest concern is that she may have a foreign object she may have swallowed that is stuck in her stomach or intestines. Other causes in dogs her age include dietary indiscretions or infections. It sounds asFrankie is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. the foaming from the mouth is probably a sign of nausea. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Usually small breed dogs require to be fed throughout the day every 6 hours or so. However, this could also be due to something else like a toxicity of some kind. Poor Roxy! I'm concerned that something she ingested could have been toxic or caused something severe like an intestinal obstruction or pancreatitis. I recommend having Roxy examined by a veterinarian right away. She may need X-rays or blood work to ensure she does not need surgery or extensive treatment. I am so sorry to hear about Coco. I know how scary this can be for the dog as well as the owner. You have my sympathies. The first disease that comes to mind when you were describing her symptoms was one called idiopathic epilepsy or seizures. Unfortunately, dogs of her breed can start to have seizures at an early age. Another disease of small small breed dogs is a condition called hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. This disease can also cause the same symptoms as seizures. I strongly encourage you to make an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible even if she is acting completely normal. In fact, that would be the best time to do a physical exam as well as diagnostic testing like bloodwork so that you can have medications on board or at home to give if she exhibits the symptoms again. Not to mention, with something as serious as this could be, you need to have a correct diagnosis performed by your local veterinarian so that they can help you treat any problems you may have in the future.
