My new puppy is scared of my husband. How can they form a bond?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd - miniature | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 26 days old | 6 lbs

My new puppy loves me but won’t have anything to do with my husband even though he has tried so many ways to love her. She’s an 11 week old mini Aussie.

I'm sorry you're having this challenge with Koyah. It is common that small young dogs will often be nervous around men. The key to their relationship will likely be to have your husband do some training with her. She needs to see him as a positive person who delivers lots of treats while training. I would also recommend putting him in charge of feeding her for a while, so she really associates him with food. Make sure that all training is positive reinforcement, so she only has positive associations with you husband for now. Hopefully doing training together will help them form a good bond.
Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
