My puppy has ringworm. When can he be with my other dog again?

Both diseases are easily transmitted, so you will run the risk of spreading the diseases if you don't keep them separated. However, it's likely that they have all been exposed already, so separating them may not be necessary. Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure and the safest bet is to separate them. The coccidia is readily eliminated with treatment, but the ringworm often takes a few weeks and sometimes months before it is completely killed with treatment. Ideally, the ringworm pup should be isolated until the infection is confirmed negative by your vet. I understand the concern of isolating the poor pup though and I think the lack of social activity is a significant concern - especially if it's weeks of being isolated. I wouldn't think it wrong to let the pups play/interact with eachother as long as you understand the risk and take some precautions. If you do decide to take that risk, then you can minimize it by giving them all a bath with antifungal shampoo at the same time as you would normally bathe Lexi. Hello, once the ringworm has cleared up, they should not be shedding it persistently. However, you need to make sure that you've also cleaned your environment by washing all bedding and clothing Snickers used 2-3 times weekly. Vacuuming and cleaning all surfaces that snickers frequented in the same frequency as the ringworm fungus can live in the environment for a long time. Routine cleaning and disinfecting the environment during treatment (as described in the link below) is crucial to stop the spread of the organism and to prevent reinfection. You need to isolate the puppy only if you have other pets so they don't catch the ringworm too. You guys should wear gloves and wash your hands throughly after you handle the puppy. I've found that if you wash your hands after handling Sierra and do not have any open wounds it is uncommon to catch this from her. Since you've treated her and are giving the medicated baths she should be even less likely to spread Ringworm. Follow your veterinarian's advice on treatment but if she's been treated now for two weeks or more she should be safe to handle. Poor puppy. I can understand how this can be worrisome especially since you haven't even brought him home yet. But it is a good thing that the breeder is at least taking responsibility for the infection and treating it before you take him home with you. The breeder should be aware to separate the affected puppy from the others so that they did it doesn't get spread around. If the breeder follow simple hygiene instructions and isolating this puppy then the reader should be able to get this under control within 3 to 6 weeks. But most importantly you want to make sure that the puppy does well on the medication and has no side effects and is clear of any skin lesions before you adopt him. Hi there! For ringworm we often treat for 30 days, depending on the veterinarian's choice and how bad the infection is. You will probably not be able to get a prescription without seeing a new doctor unless you can get you're other doctor to fax a previous prescription. If they did not prescribe you anymore, your doctor may want to see if your puppy improves with little treatment. You will have to get ahold of the original prescription before you can do anything else unless you want to see another dr (probably ER on the weekends) to see if the doctor thinks you need more.

I hate to hear that Boo has ringworm. The main problem with spreading is due to the spores of the fungus found in the environment. The spores are attached to pieces of shedding hair and can be active in the environment for months in ideal conditions. Environmental clean up is a must to control this fungus. As far as Boo himself goes, the topical treatments will help to remove the contagious spores faster and the oral medications will help to kill the fungus faster which will result in less spores. Unfortunately, Boo is considered contagious until he has two negative cultures done 1 week apart. Most cats will be start re-testing for ringworm 2-4 weeks after initial diagnosis.
